Hi all,

I bought my v4 (SCPH-30004) PAL PS2 in the summer of 2001 and had an internal modchip installed for it sometime during 2003. Now whenever I make CD-R backups for my CD-based PS2 games via Alcohol 120% they work fine on the PS2, but sadly none of the backups I've made for my DVD-based PS2 games work. I've been using both Alcohol and DVD Encryptor to make the image and burn at 4x or lower. I've tried various DVD-R and DVD+R media including TDK, Samsung, LG, SKC and Gigamax but alas none seem to work. No luck with DVD+RW either. I've made well over 15 coasters now!

The CD/DVD burner I'm using is an ASUS DRW-1608P.

Oddly enough, some clearly pirated PS2 DVD games I bought in Asia still work fine on my PS2...

Cheers

it could be that the games you bought in Asia were pressed discs like the original, then the Ps2 would not need to be modded to play them. Other than that it may be that since your chip is so old it does not support DVD back ups. Check the specs on the chip you have to know for sure.

Thanks for responding, but unfortunately I do not know what modchip was installed. Is there a way I can know for sure whether the chip installed could actually play DVD-R backups?

I find it quite strange that whenever I put a DVD-R - empty, even - on the PS2 while it is in Browser Mode it makes various screeching souds and, after a minute, will say 'Disc Read Error.' Doesn't it have to say 'Please Insert a PS2 disc'?

This is sort of getting annoying and I'm thinking of getting a slim PStwo with SwapMagic so I can play these DVD-R backups..

Any help would be much appreciated.

I can confirm that this is NOT the USB chip.
