PS2 is not reading the discs why??

I used swap disc to play my smackdown! vs raw a couple of days before. It was going ok until the music went out, but i still had the fighting sound. After the match, it took me about 5 minutes loading time for each screen. And around 12 minutes overall for me to get to the memory card and save. During the process, the cd seemed like it made alot of noises when it was spinning. So I restarted and I used swap disc and it doesn't read it. When i start it, it goes to the browser/configuration screen, but i can see that it was trying to read the disc, but it kept on moving back and forth at the same spots. After around 5-7 minutes, the ps2 gave up on the reading and i tried all my other discs. The same thing happens, it tries to search for a long long time, but then nothing comes out of it. Is this a disc read error problem? I've tried to clean it with alcohol and q-tip with no avail. Please help!! This is the 2nd ps2 that I'm about to screw up.

my version is 50001, it was just working right b4 i heard a few scratch sound and it stopped working once i restarted.

i dont' even get a disc read error. when i get into browse it just says reading disc... and it kept on reading. Frustrating already

I have a ps2 that done the same thing, no disc read error, but it doesnt always say that, I followed the guide in the link i gave you before and its now working, its worth a try.

I had the same problem, but i had a modchip in it. i took my modchip out and resolderd the chip and it worked

ya i was trying to follow the site. The clicker wasn't the same so i was testing it out and I lost my original place. Still isn't working since i lost count of the clicks.

All thats left now is trial and error, start with the laser in its lowest position, just keep turning the white wheel till the laser drops, then give that a try. The site did say to mark the original posistion with a black marker.

ya because 50001 model doesn't have that "one clicker" it has 2. one on each side of the bar. so i was checking if that was the one and i rolled it a couple of times. Then i thought about making a mark but by then it was too late.
