PS2 drive stopped spinning - help appreciated

Hi all,

Just today, my PS2 began crashing, and now the dvd drive wont spin when I eject and insert any type of dvd or cd in. The console still boots up, its simply the drive that doesn't spin.

Just wondering if anyone has encountered a similar problem before?
My guess is that the motor got burnt or maybe some ribbons got damaged.

If I go get a network kit and install a HDD, can I simply download all my dvd games from computer to PS2 and not rely on the PS2 dvd drive ever again?

Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated

if you go to the playstation site, they have a help number and if u call that they really help alot. I know because i was trying to set up the network adaptor to the internet and he said i needed to send it to the factory so i did and it works great.
