i've burnt about 20 TDK's - blue label with no problems using dvddecrypter, then DVDshrink with no problems at all.

Bought a spindle of Maxell DVD-r and all 10 so far fail - all the same way.
Everything is good until halfway through the burning process, then they stick at around 20-30% forever.

Any clues ? Can i recalibrate the burner ? Sony DRU-700A
Is there known issues with maxell ?
i've got 30 blanks left - are they junk ?

TIA

Make sure your firmware is update to date - the latest for your drive is VY08. Maxell uses some good manufacturers. Check the manufacturer id on these. Here's link for dvd identifier:
http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
Post back with the id.

Yes a little stumped - Ritek is usually (key word) pretty good. I have had some problems with the G05's though.
Wait - just checked videohelp.com and these maxells have mixed reviews.

Tia: How fast are you burning them?

I've only had trouble with maxell's-ritekg-04 on one I/O Magic 16x burner and the firmware update took care of that. That burner was failing at lead-in phase.

Somebody elso bought some at office depot last week and it looks like they got a hold of a bad batch.Maybe same with you?

Try a disc at the bottom of the spindle,but not the very last one.

Where'd you get them at?

i noticed the time frame of initial post to the date he stated he got them working, i HOPE it didn't take that long, firmware is usually "instant" for me, but systems vary i suppose :) but, i would take the RitekG05s anyday as my Sony dru-710a (just the next model up from your dru-700 chawoo) LOVES them too~ :) happy burning.

@kivory666
Delayed reaction maybe:)

@chawoo
Kivory's right firmware is instant. What finally happened to get it working?

That dru-700a (same as mine) was probably pleading for vy08, then was holding out for some verbatim discs, then gave up waiting and made do with the other media :)

What's the model of your drive?
To id the manufacturer put a blank disc in Decrypter can mode to ISO write and on the right hand side Decrypter will list the discs info. If you have Nero go to Nero Tool Kit>Nero Info Tool. Click on the disc tab and the info will be listed. Or dl this prog:

Here's your latest firmware:
http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/English/e_downloads/e_firmware_dvd%20...
I think you meant you had a SOHW1663S

For the disc info take the info from the top of the screen under disc identification. Click on the tab for type of disc you put in the drive i.e: DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW etc.

Okay that first site I gave sucks - use this one:
http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/download.htm
It will bring up a file to dl ( make sure you pick the one for your burner). Save to your desk top. Before you flash your drive make sure no apps are running and no discs are in the drive. Unzip. Open the .exe file and run. Reboot.
Where is the hardrive w/ an X showing up?
