Its easy to use the AR Max evo for swap magic with the slim ps2.
DVD BACKUPS:

1) Boot your PS2 with SWAP MAGIC DVD Disc

2) Using SWAP METHOD insert AR MAX EVO DVD and hit X

screen will reload. Now hit the X Button.

9) a red screen should come up prompting you to swap dvd with EA method,
Don't worry as all you need to do is insert the
DVD game backup you want to run with codes. HIT X

VOILA!!

You are now running your DVD BACKUP game with codes from a BACKUP AR MAX.

The only time I have had to pull the memory card, is when I change my mind on what cheats I want. I just pull it before I swap the AR Max dvd, put it back in just before I start my backup game.

So before you pressed Triangle in Step 8, you had inserted your Swap Magic DVD. The disc should start, then press X. Nothing happens after you press X. What version PS2 do you have?

Ok and in Step 6, when the Black and White screen came up, you just pressed X and didn't change anything there.
Are you using magic keys or fliptop. Shouldn't matter though which really.
I really don't know why its not working for you. I can see your backup not starting if you select too many codes, but why your disc won't spin after pressing Triangle, I don't get it.
I can hear mine start when I press Triangle, and then I press X.

Where did you get your Ar Max Evo Swap Magic. You can click my name to the left, go to my folder and look for the one I have uploaded. Download it, extract and then burn ISO to DVD. It has the DVD Loader that you need to get the Black and White screen. Follow the steps exactly and you should see it twice. First time you change the RESET IOP - to Always
Second time you see this screen you just press X.
