I installed DVD decrypter, and when i run it, it says:

searching for scsi / atapi devices

then freezes. I cannot soft restart, i have to hard restart, and the same thing happens whenever i run it. I have tried reinstalling it, and trying a different download for it, but nothing seems to work. It is DVD decrypter 1.5.4.0 and im using force aspi 1.7

yes quite new. Just got my burner. I was told dvd decrypter is by far the best, and I really dont like nero which is what came with my burner. Whenever i start it though, it sticks on searching for scsi / atapi devices then freezes the whole computer. No i dont have a dma channel, do i need it for decrypter?

You more than likely do have "ATA/ATAPI" channels. These are the busses that connect your drives to the rest of your computer. DMA is one of the methods or modes used to transfer data over these busses. Sometimes they are not in DMA which is the preferred mode because it is the fastest. Here is a guide:

That would not necessarily be the only cause though. Have you tried removing and reinstalling Decrypter?

Searching for scsi / atapi devices means that Decrypter is looking for your DVD drive and because it can't complete the task it is sort of stuck in a loop. That's why your computer seems to freeze. It is waiting for this task to end. Next time try and select Ctrl/Alt/Del to open Task Manager, then go to Processes and end the DVD Decrypter process. That way you shouldn't have to boot your PC.

That's assuming that it isn't locked up so tight that you can't open Task Manager!

Make sure your DVD drives are working. Can you play a DVD or a CD in them?

Okay, reinstalled encrypter, took out the drive and then putt it back in. Now DVD Decrypter does not get stuck anymore, but when i try to read a dvd i get an error. I cant run the dvd at all. I cant play the dvd in windows media, Nero, or anything. It just freezes when i try to watch the dvd. I can go into my computer and look at the files on the disk, just cant play anything. It runs cds just fine, I backed up some music to itunes with it. I think the drive might be crap, it should at least play dvds.

Thank you very much for the help.

ps - sorry if what i am saying sounds totally stupid, i am very new to this

hi

umm ok, is the drive on a cable with another drive? so 2 drives sharing a lead?

(have you set master and slave for each drive? and correctly too!!!)

if 2 drives take one out and try it on its own!!!

if you have Nero loaded (get it from the website) use Nero info tool to see if you have DMA enabled...

also in Nero info tool check you have a ASPI layer installed and working correctly 1 for Nero own and one for your system...

not sure but you may need codecs too, cant remember if powerDVD loads its own aswell as media player (dont rate media player)

check those few piontsw
