This is the first time I have ever posted a question. I hope some one can help. I have been backing up ddv's for some time using dvd decrypter, dvd shrink with Nero burning ROM. lats week my burner bit the dust and was given a new one from the same company ( sony dvd burner. I know its not that good but it came with the computer and it workrd well for me.) Now with the new burner installed dvd shrink does not start the burning process as it used to. I do heve the burn with nero box checked in preferences. So i tried to burn the shrink file myself using Nero burn rom. All I was able to get was " alead in burn " than a fail message buffer to large. I am also enclosing the log as i have noticed some people have asked foe it in threads. Thanks in advance for any idead to help Rich

OK lets go over a few things.

First, you need to edit out your Nero Serial Number from your post. It is the number near the top of the log that starts with 1a23.

Next, it looks like you have DMA off:

DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6Y200M0 YAR5 viasraid Port 0 ID 2 DMA: Off
DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6Y080L0 YAR4 viadsk Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : IDE DVD-ROM 16X 2.50 viadsk Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD RW DW-D26A JYS2 viadsk Port 2 ID 1 DMA: Off
OtherPeripheral : Promise RAID Console 1.00 fasttx2k Port 3 ID 4 DMA: Off

I run a Promise raid controller so depending on your config you may have DMA disabled devices not on ATA/ATAPI busses. You should check and enable what you can. Your setup looks unusual to me. You have some sort of "Via" controllers going on. I'm not familiar with that but I'm sure someone else is. It almost looks like you are running external drives.

Sometimes installing new hardware really messes Nero up. Try uninstalling and then reinstalling. The primary error is the important one, the ones that follow may not be accurate.

Primary error:

Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR)
HA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK)
TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND)
Sense Key: 0x05 (KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST)

After you remove Nero, reset any of your IDE busses to DMA. Here is a guide:
http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/dvdguide005.html

Once you have that complete, reinstall Nero and then run the registry Checker and Driver Cleaner utilities, find them here:

Thanks for the quick reply. I assumed that DMA was off and might be a problem. However when I go into device manager and try to follow the guide to turn on DMA I have only 4 tabs when i double click secondary or primary ultra ATA/ATAPI Chanel Controllers. The tabs are General, Driver , Details, Resources. I can't find anything about DMA as in the guide to turn on Dma

Where it says Details it should say Advanced Settings. Are you using Windows XP?

Well I looked at your log and answered my question.

I'll see what I can find out about that.

If that is not an available option then that tab won't appear. Can you describe how you have your drives set up? Are they actually on an IDE buss? You have that Via controller so that is adding to the confusion on my end. Are these internal or external drives?

Right click on [My Computer] and select [Properties] from the menu. Click [Device Manager] on the [Hardware] tab, then click to open the [IDE ATA/ATAPI (hard disk) controllers] section. You will find: the Primary IDE Channel controller, Secondary IDE Channel controller, and a brand name controller, e.g. Intel, SIS, VIA, etc. The brand name controller is what needs to be updated. Please visit their website to obtain these updates.

I think the DMA settings were the culprit on this one, and cleaning Nero worked it out

This has been known to cause problems with DMA and Nero and a clean reinstall is recommended.
