hi,
i'm getting the same problem - i have pretty much exhausted all options i can from super dvd ripper.
it's a free to air recording onto a blank dvd from my recorder, and i'm just trying to back it up onto my comp - super dvd worked for quite a while, only for some reason the error "decoder not ready - choose a dvd or VOB file first" message now comes up, after i've selected the DVD drive and even tried selecting the VOB files individually.
any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers
Jon

Hi
I had this problem eversince I used super dvd ripper too.
I rip about 30 - 40 dvds perfectly and than I get this error mesage decoder not ready choose dvd or VOB first.
I had this problem already about 4 time. I get bored to reinstal my hole computer, since I don't have any other solution for this problem.
I read a lot FAQ's, guides... and I looked through the forums.
I found nothing, that helped me.
Please help me.
Thanks

Hi, changing to something else is sound advice. On the other hand, given that you had been successful for some time, there is a probability that some of the codecs that you had been using had become corrupted (yes, they do from time to time). You may run a check with GSpot, or simpy download and install K-Lite codec Pack (full or mega version) to see if things might get well. Do set up a restore point first before trying any new software.
Good luck!

you should just try a new ripper...
for example:
DVDx
XMpeg
and other such, these are all quality freeware programs that are far superior to some of the shareware alternatives i have tried...

I had the same issue as well. I really DON'T want to switch to another program, I want to find out why the program is doing this and continue to use it. Sorry :(
I have an idea that it is a new codec install that causes the issue. Did any of you install any new program or codec package prior to the error? If I remember correctly, I did.

I did find a program very similar to Super DVD Ripper called SAGA DVD Ripper. I am trying it out as I am typing this. I can't seem to resolve the issue not matter what I do. 4 hours is a long enough investment on Super DVD ripper.

I too have had the same problem with SDVD Ripper and it is related to one of the codec that is installed with some other ripper. Off hand I do not recall which, but if you remove the ones that you installed and reinstall the 5.x of DivX, it should start working again.
