LAN Setup Guide (including GT4)
Following on from the GT4 LAN Guide, here is a more comprehensive guide for LAN play including the Network Configuration Settings you may need to setup on the memory card(s) if your game does not correctly or automatically configure them.
LAN Setup (General - all games)
To configure LAN play using the direct method, i.e. PlayStation 2 Network Adapter to a Crossover Ethernet Cable, directly to the second PlayStation 2 Network Adapter, you can use the following set up:
Using the Network Access Disc, create a new Network Configuration called LAN and set it to one of the 2 set ups below:
Console 1
ISP = Other
User Name and Password Required (PPPoE)? = No
DHCP = No
IP address = 192.168.0.1
Netmask = 255.255.255.0
Gateway = 1.1.1.1
DNS Addresses Automatically Obtained? = No
Primary DNS = 1.1.1.1
Secondary DNS = 1.1.1.1
Save settings but do not run a Diagnostic Test.
Console 2
ISP = Other
User Name and Password Required (PPPoE)? = No
DHCP = No
IP address = 192.168.0.2
Netmask = 255.255.255.0
Gateway = 1.1.1.1
DNS Addresses Automatically Obtained? = No
Primary DNS = 1.1.1.1
Secondary DNS = 1.1.1.1
Save settings but do not run a Diagnostic Test.
If you intend to set up a LAN game via a router or switch, then you might be able to just leave everything as automatic for DHCP and DNS IP addressing. If this fails to work then you will need to have a Static IP address for each PS2 and set each PS2 and these IP addresses may need to be entered into the Router as well:
Console 1
ISP = Other
User Name and Password Required (PPPoE)? = No
DHCP = No
IP address = First IP Address created as Static within the router
Netmask = 255.255.255.0
Gateway = IP Address of the Router
DNS Addresses Automatically Obtained? = No
Primary DNS = IP Address of the Router
Secondary DNS = IP Address of the Router
Save settings but do not run a Diagnostic Test.
Console 2
ISP = Other
User Name and Password Required (PPPoE)? = No
DHCP = No
IP address = Second IP Address created as Static within the router
Netmask = 255.255.255.0
Gateway = IP Address of the Router
DNS Addresses Automatically Obtained? = No
Primary DNS = IP Address of the Router
Secondary DNS = IP Address of the Router
Save settings but do not run a Diagnostic Test.
Additional PlayStation 2 consoles can be added in the same way thus allowing for multiple gamers on a single LAN game.
Once you have created the network configuration, simply load your LAN compatible game, and choose the LAN option, once you have selected your configuration click 'Login', it will ask you to create a player name. Once you have a player name click 'Connect' on Console 1 followed by Console 2 a couple of seconds after, this will allow both console to recognise each other. One player will need to create a Gaming Room, if both players try one will be disconnected. Once the room has been created the other player can join
GT4 LAN Setup Guide
Up to six consoles can connect together using a Hub, switch or router. Each console will require it?s own game disc, Memory Card, Network Adaptor and CAT5 Ethernet cable, which will connect between the Network Adaptor and the routing device. It is also possible to link two consoles together using a Crossover Ethernet cable, this will connect between the two Network Adaptors. The instructions are the same for both set ups.
1. Allow the game disc to automatically create the Network Configuration on each memory card and don?t forget to save it.
2. Give each console it?s own user ID Number (if 2 consoles have the same ID number it will fail).
3. Set one console only as the host and set how many players will race.
4. Go to the options menu and select LAN Connections.
5. Change the Auto connection setting to YES and give the console a connection ID number. Give each console it?s own ID Number. After choosing an ID number for each console, set the auto connection back to NO.
6. Return to the options menu and select LAN Play.
7. Within the LAN settings menu set one console as the host and choose the number of players.
8. Give each console a machine name and leave all other host settings as NO
9. To select which tracks to race, go to Course Reg. Settings and select your tracks. Make sure that the same tracks are selected on every console.
10 Remember to save in the Options Menu before leaving to go to the next step!!
11. Launch the LAN game by selecting Multi LAN Race from the Arcade menu.
12. If there is no Network Configuration, one will be created at this stage. A connection screen will appear where you can select which configuration to use. Choose the one which says GT4.
13. Launch the Host console a few seconds before the others, by clicking on connect.
For some existing networks, it may be necessary to create or edit the Network settings manually to ensure that the IP Range matches that of the router. In this case, leave the auto connection settings as NO
Now when you select Multi LAN Race from the Arcade menu, you will be able to create/edit your Network Settings manually.
