Have have two DVD drives... One is just a reader, the other is a writer. I was wondering if it was possible to copy a DVD directly from the reader to the writer instead of copying it to my hard drive first.

if it is only a single-layer original disc (DVD-5, 4.3GB or less of data) then it is possible, but about 90% of commercial DVDs are dual-layer (DVD-9, up to 8.5GB of data).

You'll need either AnyDVD or DVD43 running in the background to bypass encryption (dvd43 is free, AnyDVD is $39 but has a 21-day free trial) and use whatever software came with your burner to do a regular disc copy. I only recommend this if your reader and writer are on seperate IDE channels (one on primary and one on secondary) and keep burn speeds at 4x or less.

And if it's not copy protected.

The purpose of running AnyDVD or DVD43 is to "de-copy" protect the disc.
