trouble backing up Iron Maiden Rock in Rio. decrypted with decrypter and compressed with shrink then attepted to burn with shrink, actually it uses nero to burn, at 2X times gets close to %50 then I get the incomplete burn error. this is all just the main title mind you (close to 2 hours), no extras or menus, just using the standard audio track, the DTS is out of the question. tried re-authoring with shrink by dumping a couple of chapters, some start end frame option in there, is that safe or is there trouble with that? same thing, did not complete burning. tried taking output file from shrink and burning with nero recode (I'm not sure if recoding is actually necessary after using shrink but it worked on another back up I was having this same trouble with) anyway burning with recode didn't work either. does it have anything to do with the audio files being to large? the entire file audio and video, after recoding is a little over 4500 mg, I know that's kinda pushing it. I don't really want to mess with the compression, the other disc I was having trouble with came out, well, just ok video quality wise, sometimes you see that breakup with the little squares. I don't have the nero log that came with the burn error and I don't think shrink really has an error log other than the message that says didn't complete. I do know that it couldn't complete burning that's for sure. I read something about having the empty disc already in the drive before starting the process, what if anything does that have to do with it? how do I know what kind of quality I'll get by messing with the compression setting without getting a successful burn and viewing the disc? haven't been able to get a successful burn using the enable burn with nero option in shrink yet. only successful burn has been using output files from shrink on HD and burn with recode and that was on another close to 2 hour concert disc. help

i'll answer the disc speed bit for now..you need the disc in drive prior to hitting the burn button as Nero then has a choice of burns speeds, otherwise it will select Maximum.

for whatever reason I'm able to still select the speed even if I add the disc after decoding or when prompted. the max it will allow is 2.4X so I burn at 2X, a little waiting doesn't bother me if I'm going to get back a successful burn. I tried defrag last night. I'll attempt to burn another one tonight. when re-authoring is it safe to mess with the start/stop frame feature in shrink to dump a couple chapters to get the size down? the last chapter is usually just credits. I'll try again with Nero and post the error log or maybe I'll even take a look at it myself this time. normally I don't look at the log at all, no success, try a different approach. I had this same trouble with Dream Theater Budokan. I think I just need to adjust the compression, but I'm afraid to lose video quality. I still haven't been able to get a successful burn with the enable burn with Nero feature in shrink. the only successful burns from shrink I've been able to pulll off has been taking the output files from shrink and burning them with Nero from the HD.

Nero log would always be welcome (the LAST section of it anyways).

- i must admit this is all i've ever done, never tried that 'Shrink burn with Nero' thing, i prefer to do that manually. How long is the Rock in Rio concert on the disc ~?. i shrunk a Chili Peppers dvd (Slane castle concert) the other week in it's entirety and i forget the % compression it used but it came out brilliantly.

There are some dvd9's (some rock concerts for example) that can not be compressed onto a DVD5. The audio files are too big and audio can not be compressed, only video.

Mort81 I think you may have something with the audio mention, but I'm not even attempting to keep the DTS track, way too big, just the standard track. I'm getting some DVD-RW so I don't have to blow through 4 discs trying to get this right. I get a lot of my media for free, but it gets a little rediculous after the 4th try. unfortunately I don't have a huge choice when it comes brands, it's memorex or maxell, but it's free and the successful burns I get play back great. I'm going to try adjusting the compression, but I've noticed, with clonedvd2 anyway, and it makes different mentions as you follow their guide, the first time it mentions don't go below
%50 and the next time it mentions "%60 or so", so there's some contradiction there. someone define "below" when it comes to compression. On that I'm confused is %40 more compressed or less compressed than %50, some help there please? with recode it doesn't use the word compression it says quality, but the compression on recode seems to be locked, it won't allow me to move the slider, with shrink you can go to custom and it will allow you to turn it to crap if you wish. I'm still not sure that dropping chapters is the answer either. I tried cutting that Dream Theater in half so I wouldn't have to use any compression, 10 chapters on one disc 10 on another, that was one of my failed burns as well. just one coaster from that though, when one failed I didn't attempt to burn the latter chapters. oh yeah on the actual disc Rock in Rio runs over 2 hours, but through dropping some elements I get it down under 2.
