If you use good media then your laser should be just fine
I have been playing back ups on my V7 for years and
it still has not had a laser problem.
As for my slim it is chipped with a laser fix
so there is no way to really tell.

So your saying that the slim version can have laser problems if played with burned games? Anyway I'm using those Sony DVD-Rs 4.7 GB. Can you tell me if their good quality dvds? Thanks!

the slim PSTwo is known for laser problem
even without playing back ups. But that doesn't
mean it will happen to yours.
There are steps you can take like using good media
getting a laser fix installed
i have had mine 8 months or so and no problems
but it has a DMS4 Pro chip and Summone laser fix

Sony blanks are fine but there are less expensive alternatives, such as Verbatim or TDK.

Needs
Black PS2 V9 - Ripper 2 Gold Chip
Silver Slim PS2 V12 - Muppet Chip - Sub Zero Laser Fix

Due to the low quality of the parts used in the PS2, said 'jacking up' is just a part of normal operation. As for the laser, the harder it has to work to track the disc, the more wear it is taking. Poor quality backup media has lower reflective qualities, which make it harder for the laser to read. A disc with a lot of spiderline scratches, fingerprint smudges, low reflectivity due to cheap media, etc also will cause problems. To read those discs, the controller will raise the voltage on the laser (causing overheating eventually), and adjust the servos more often (leading to wearing out).

The solution is to buy top quality media, take care not to scratch them, and store them in a way that prevents disc decay.

Does playing back up games jack up ur laser?

i dont believe that at all

if it did jack up your laser?

you can just take it back to sony

and they will fix it for free

the model number has to be a version 1 to 4

for the replacement for the laser

the newer models they wont do cause there isnt any problems with them

"if it did jack up your laser? you can just take it back to sony and they will fix it for free"

Easier said than done. Once its out of warranty, you're out of luck. Also, since you're playing backups, I assume you've got a modchip or case hack to make swap work. Once you break that warranty seal to install whatever, Sony will just laugh and send your console back.

"the newer models they wont do cause there isnt any problems with them"

So you havent heard of the v12 mechacon crashes (instant laser fried) or v9-v10 LA6508 overheating? If anything the newer models are probably more susceptible to laser damage than before.
