I've still got a ways to go to meet that maucho status you addicts so deserve. I'm in no hurry. I'll just set back relax and help out whenever I can. Thats what it's all about anyway.

Getting back on topic, it seems I got a bad batch of Verbatim 8x, which I bought at a BB sale. Opened the spindle and made couple of backups and I seem to be getting what I describe as trails in the video, kind of like ghosting. Did same backups on TY's and nothing. Am wondering if there is something wrong with the dye.

just bought new TYs yesterday from Meritline.com .... 100spindle, 8x +Rs for 41.99. Not bad..... with shipping..... cost me 50.00! the best disks out there ..... just my opinion..... we still need a good list for Media Ratings...... I was told that http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm was tainted, by some Ritek addicts! They didn't like the 2nd ratings listed on the DigitalFAQ's list!

I dont understand why much of people pay more for these discs. I''ve used BenQ discs DVD-R and DVD+R , ive ewent through 50 discs everyone of em worked fine, no skips , coasters. You people say memorex is bad to, i jst burnt like 10 movies no problems there either.

If your reading this thread and you are new dont spend more money online to buy them because others do, its a waste of money>
It's your call, your money, so do whatever you're desired to.

I would never, never, never and ever buy $hitmorex blanks and any other unknown cheap brands period.

hi venom...bzzzz bzzzz im the Taiyo Yuden bee if you haven't already noticed...it's been too easy to promote my beloved TYs without your stance for memorex~ :)

but, i will agree with you 100% that it's YOUR money, spend it how you wish...no skin off my azz :P BUT, i still try to recommend the good stuff and have the experience to back up what i say about TYs

@arniebear...congrats from me on ur addict status as well...

everyone else...i've said what needed to be said on page one, though i completely disagree with the original poster's choice on media, as venom stated, it's HIS money, not mine...i will still go to sleep tonight..snug as a bug. :)

Thanks to you people, I have never used Memorex DVD's... :}
When I first got into burning, I browsed through all the forums and saw all the crap on Memorex DVDs. I started with Ritek G05's and have never had a problem in my HALF YEAR dvd burning career hehe. Thanks to all you peeps who kept n00bs like me from the dark side...

Oh yeah I consider TY to be the best of all manufacturers. I dont use it too often, have asbout 60 discs remaining. I only use TY for PS2 game backups. I think they are far too valuable for something like movies heh. For movies I use the Ritek G05s, which I believe are the awesomest "budget" media ever. I say "budget" cuz I payed the same thing for 100 pack of Rtiek G05s as TYG02s.

Thanks to gear79 & Gurnard for your comments and to everyone else. I already purchased the DVD-R TY's but glad to know that the Maxell's (Ritek05's) are good too. Seems some members are very touchy about their particular brands of DVD media. My major concern is the longevity of the DVD's and if what I am reading from you "oldtimers" is correct than I should stick with Ritek 05's and TY's! Does anyone have an idea how long a DVD-R will last? I thought I read some where they could last up to 100 years. Seems like a long time but I still have some old betamax tapes and the quality after about 20 years is "Crap," to say the least. So I am concerned about what I buy.

Thanks again all for your remarks.

I testify memorex media is crap,,,I have at least 100 back-ups on memorex thats over a yr old and a lot of them freezes up or skips in section..As of lately I've been sticking to the Verbatim and Ritek G05 hub printables, and occasionaly the Ty 4x G01 and have'nt had a problem since.I also went away from the Neatos Dvd lables and got an Epson 200 which is only $69 at Frys.So for all the newbies don't make the mistake like I did,,,not saying go out and get Ty's because Verbatim and the Ritek G05 are just as good,,,and recently I hear that prodisc is becoming a good reliable media.

2.Verbatim
3.Ritek Ridata (hub printable)

Hey! I try to look for the deals but typically I come to AD and watch for the deals that you guys & gals share. BB has Verbatims DVD+R DL on sale: 10 for $40.00. I also spend a lot there so I had $10.00 in those rewards zone coupons which made it $30.00 by the time I left. I use these DL for the master copies and they are flawless (again in my own opinion!). Lately I have used Rebuilder w/CCE and converting regular letterbox to 16X9 letterbox. On my set the difference is better than zooming the set. I have burned the copies on my TY's 02, burning them at 4x speed, and my Denon 2200 plays them flawlessly. Just passing on the word for those who use Rebuilder Pro and CCE, also just echoing the same comments by many of how great TY's and Verbatims are. I do not use sub par media. At last count 750 back-ups. Only coasters (some from burning to fast at the beginning, and the rest have been on Memorex and store brand junk!) I also love the Sony's and even Maxell's.
