although there are many great apps for doing this I suggest DVD Shrink this is a great simple app w/advanced features look in the software tab at the top of tis page this is one of the best known app out there so there is a lot of guides and guidance should you find yourself lost in the features

i used DVD Shrink to RIP the movie, but the movie is a VOB. file, and alot of dvd burning programs are not supported with VOB. so im trying to re-encode the entire movie file to AVI, or mpgeg, but DVDX (NOT DVD X COPY) only encodes 4 min of the 90 min movie file.

okay you have the movie on your hd use the open file mode in shrink browse for the file you created(vob's,ifo's,bup's)should be video _ts or similar but when you go to hit back up select create iso as Nero and decrypter can burn this file I believe Nero can burn the video_ts file just do a data disc.

use the shrink with Nero burning enabled it will cut out the carpal tunnel from all that clicking just remember to use the open file mode in shrink when you go to back up there will be a confirmation box inside there is a drop down box that gives you choices for your destination called backup target select iso image file and burn w/nero as this will take you all the way home.
good luck.

well I have no idea what that error code means lol

Are you using Nero Express (did it come free with burner or did you shell out some cash?), NeroVision or Nero Burning ROM? Nero Express looks a bit different, but should allow you to burn VOB files. Never used NeroVision, so don't know what that looks like. I do know they have horrendous error logs though.

You could also use DVD Shrink to process the files (even if no compression is required) and if you have DVD Decrypter installed as well tell Shrink to make an ISO image and burn it with Decrypter.

I think the problem may be that your drive is set for region 1. Did it rip the whole movie? Can you watch it on your hard drive?

Do you have IFO and BUP files with this VOB file?

Roxio is on your computer. It does NOT play well with other DVD programs. You need to get rid of it if you want to use NERO and some of the other programs. Can someone else assist on getting rid of Roxio. I have no expertise in that other than a re-format some time back.

Is your computer a "Hand Me Down?" Why would a manufacturer provide you with a box that has conflicting software?

"CPU: GenuineIntel, Intel Pentium 4, MMX @ 0 MHz" ????????? What is that? (From your error message.) A P-4 with MMX @ 0 MHZ? I thought that the MMX designation was dropped long before the P-4 came out. And "0" MHz. That is incomprehensible.

Might be time to look into some anti-spyware programs, firewalls & antivirus protection.

TC

the problem you're having is because you have no IFO files. Download a program called IFOEdit. Then open it up and click "Create IFOs." Now locate your folder which contains the VOB files. Make sure the box that says Same as Source is checked, click OK and it should run through your VOB files and when it's done you should have working IFO files. Just to be sure though, click Get VTS Sectors and choose your first IFO file. It may give you some messages popping up you may or may not understand, just hit ok. After it's done you should be all set to burn.

maybe you should try to rip it again. It's strange that Shrink ripped a movie and just gave you a VOB file, it usually does a good job at getting everything it needs to make a playable DVD, which would include IFO files. It almost seems as if you have a file (could be anything) that was renamed with the extension .VOB

yeah, when you rip a movie you shouldn't alter any of the files at all, I wouldn't even recommend rearranging the order of the files, although I think some software will reorder them as necessary when burning.
