I have tried several different programs DVDFab Decrypter, AnyDVD and CloneDVD and the same problem. When I rip a DVD to my hard drive, it plays great, but when I check preceding movies, they are corrupted. Mixed tracks, fragmented displays, totally unplayable files. If I then copy another, the one I just copied and reviewed as a good copy is then corrupted. Then I found a back-up file crated by NTBACKUP and it was corrupted. I'm running XP Pro with SP1 (SP2 not installed).

hello scaleste welcome to the forum I call home couple questions to clarify how much available space do you have on your hard drive and what viewing procedures are giving you the corrupted files I am assuming you are opening the files on your computer what app does it use to play the files have you checked the files w/cd check or similar app to know it is the files that are corrupted
please throw some more system spec's at us when i came here the guy's would ask more "stupid" questions than I knew how to answer but I've come to find out there is a method to the madness and there is an abundance of knowledge here so allow us to help give us more info

This actually sound More Like a Hardware problem than a software problem as I can not see any reason why Ripping a DVD would Corrupt Previously Ripped DVD"s unless there is Something wrong with the Hard Drive or the DVD"s were Corrupted in the First Place....

Have you Tried Scanning your HD for errors??

Yes - It was a hardware problem
I manage to resolve the issue. Seems that I made an error installing a drawer for the second hard drive and having two swapable drives configured as a slave drive. One for back-up and another for movies from my library that I wanted to have on hard drive. Though I would shutdown to swap drives, I was under the assumption that with the drives being identical in make and model I would not have to reset the CMOS. Apparently this is not the case.

I completed a series of fairly painstaking test. I transferred salvageable files from the ?Entertainment? drive and reformatted it. Then copied two DVD movies to the hard drive and tested both movies using PowerDVD. Both are excellent. Then I removed the ?Entertainment? drive and inserted the back-up drive. To make the test more stringent, I went to the CMOS setup so that the replaced drive would be recognized, started the system and then shutdown. I put back the ?Entertainment? drive and copied a movie to it without going to the CMOS setup. The previous two movies were corrupted.

The test was repeated with the same steps starting with formatting the ?Entertainment? drive, but this time when the drives were swapped, I used the CMOS setup so that the ?Entertainment? drive would be properly recognized. The third movie was transferred to the drive and the preceding two movies were not corrupted.

Lesson learned. My next trick is to find a utility to make changing drives a bit easier.

Thanks for the replies
