Ok, I have a few questions. Working with my new Pioneer burner, and some Memorex DVD-R media (which from the looks of these forums appears to be crappy media.

All I wanted to do was take a video I made (.AVI) and put it on a DVD player that is compatible with most players, with some menus.
Using DVD Lab I accomplished this.

Here is my problem. The burned disk takes up about 1/4th of the disk space. Although it plays fine on my computer, it plays on neither of the old standalone DVD players in our house.

Question:
1. Is it true that the entire DVD space must be taken up? (like a DVD-ROM) Is this what the booktype stuff is? And you can only do that with DVD+ media?

So far I have used like 3 different programs to try and burn this DVD and all so far have done it - only using the space it needs on the disk (like 1/4th). No programs I am seeing even give the option of filling the remainder of the disk with blank space... or what have you. Maybe I'm just confused about this matter.

no the whole dvd space doesnt need taking up..

what 3 apps did you use to make this AVI to dvd?

i would try

DIVXTODVD < fastest and quite good! pay for it
FILM MACHINE < my favourite at present - free app
AVI2DVD < i have used this, good app - free app

It is not necessary for ALL the space on a blank dvd be used to play properly. Your playback problem may be due to your choice of blank media. Memorex is considered junk media at present time. They are manufactured by CMC MAG. They made very poor quality blank media. You PC is probably reading it because it has a better system than a stand alone player. I would try a better brand of media first and see if that corrects the problem.
