A friend of mine gave me his PS2 (a V7) that he got used very cheap, because there's a modchip inside that doesn't seem to have any effect.
I opened the case to have a look at it and the chip doesn't look like anything I've ever seen on the internet:
The large chip with the rainbow wires is labeled "8P".
The following is written on the smaller chip:
12C508A
04/P02W
(M) 0204
(M) being some kind of logo (it's a capital M in italics in a white circle).
Here you can see (sort of) how the chip is connected:
It's a real mess.
Also, the orange, green, purple and blue wires aren't connected to anything.
So, what do you think? What is this chip?
The PS2 still works, so my plan was to let my friend buy a new chip and then solder it in, but I thought, maybe this chip already works and I just don't know how to make it work.
1) chip could be dead. Run the test using multimeter to see if there's current going through the chip. 2) It appears that your wire is a little too big for the chip. When your wire is big, there's not enough current going through the chip, your current will drop due to wire volume. Either change the wire or the chip.
I googled a bit and this chip looks like the "Neo" chip. I also found a site that said this chip might be incompatible with V7 PS2's, so the error might be here.
