Hi all and thanks for the interesting reading so far. I am just getting started making backups of my PS2 games, and before I buy, I wanted some advice. I have downloaded DVD Decryptor v3.5.4.0 and will be ordering SwapMagic v3.6 along with the slide card for my chunky model. Most of the games I play own are RPG's and sports, with a few FPS. My DVD burner is a NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A, which is older and only burns DVD+R. I plan on buying high quailty blank media. So here are my questions:

1. Is there anything else I will be needing to purchase?

2. Will there be a problem copying any new games I buy?

3. Is there a link available to a step-by-step walkthru for copying?

Thanks for helping out an old man. (I think 41 qualifies me as ancient by the ages I have seen on here lol)

Hey,

Depending on you Ps2 version you may have some problems with DVD+R, the old old version don't like DVD+R but as far as i know version 4+ read them fine. The only games that you will really have problems with are DVD9 games, you don't have the means to burn them so you won't be able to back them up unless you rebuild them to fit on a normal DVD5 but a lot of DVD9 games have rip kits that allow you to rebuild with a click of a button.

You seem to have everything to play backups, there's a lot of guides on copying\burning Ps2 games just do a search. You can find out what version your Ps2 is by pressing Triangle in the black browser screen and you will see something like SCPH-xxxxxx if you post that we will be able to tell if your Ps2 might have problems with DVD+R.

aye aye man

no that should do it

2. Will there be a problem copying any new games I buy?

using swap magic you will run into the occasional problem, but i would say 90% of them will not be. You have to watch out for games that need to be rebuilt or are dual layer
my suggestion is to search here for the game title and read
a few posts before you burn it.

3. Is there a link available to a step-by-step walkthru for copying?
yes http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id3.html

and the +R discs should not cause a problem, i know people who
do games on those. Unless you have a version 4 PS2 or below
that and some PS2's are just picky about the media that
it will play, i only every use -R for my games

best media to start with are Verbatim,TDK,Philips,Ritek G04
i suggest an 8X speed disc.

and don't feel old, you only have a few years on me :)

Thanks for the encouragement. My PS2 is a model #5, so I don't see any problems. I will just stay away from the DVD9 games, and get started slowly learning about rebuilds. Seems that I saw a list of copied games somewhere in the forums, I will look at that as well. Once again, thanks to all.
