How can I tell if a dvd disc is DVD+R or DVD-R?

How can I tell if a dvd disc is DVD+R or DVD-R? What software do I need to tell me that? There is no labeling on the disc at all and I don't know what type of disc is it.

Here's a free handy tool that you can download called dvdidentifier.You can just click this link: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...

This will tell you your mfg ID code and what format it is. You've probably got some sort of a labeling disc.That's why there may be no writing on the top surface.

You can also use nero's infotool and DVD Decrypter.

Here's another handy tool for both disc ID and it has a couple of scanning tests you can run your backup through to see if there are any errors. It's called dvdinfopro:

some burning programs will identify them as well, like Nero.
but in most cases, the dvd itself is labeled + or - unless they happen to be shiney both sides.. then you will need a dvd identifier.
