My advice to you is not to access XBOX LIVE with a modded hard drive.
Use programs like XBConnect & XLink Kai. I heard mixed stories about Microsoft locking out hard drives and other issues...
Playing online with software like I listed is probably your best bet or at least the safest way...

Or if you have to pay to be a part of XBL! Don't go Forking with around your XBOX to get it banned in the first place!

As for me I couldn't give a Rats mAssed about XBL! You can not be banned from something you never joind up for! I only ever used the other services for a bit. I whould have to admit if I were big on this asspect of XBOX Gaming I would only use Live! As XBConnect or Kai are a Cheaters Paradise!!! >=(

If you need Live! Get a Modchip that you can Split several BIOS into it and one that you can turn off. Make sure mothing gets into your C: or E: Drives that wasn't allready there. (i.e. no Evox / Avalaucnh at-al on C : or E:). And even then it's a mixed bag in if your going to get banned or not.

So the only "Safe" XBOX is an XBOX with an Xtenter Case Mod W/the original Non-Moded HDD and say an X3 (or any other Modchip FWIW) and 2 400Gb HDD's for Movies and Game Backups! you turn the Chip off boot the XBOX with the Stock drive and your Golden!

I personaly have never heard of an easy to use Softmod. And in my experanace it was always easer to run with the Chips. So the best advice (unless you are makeing a Hobby out of Softmodding. Is not to be a Tightass and spring for a Cheep Mod ca. $10.00(USD), If Soldering is not your bag! Solderless Chips will run you about $40.00(USD). Simply put. IT'S WORTH EVERY CENT!!!!!
