A friend gave me a copy of DVD X Copy Platinum and worked fine for a few burns. But now, im coming across DVDs with the new protections.

I want to know if there are any burning programs out that will allow the burned DVDs to play on a regular DVD player (non +/-R read). I am currently using CloneDVD with AnyDVD in the background.

If I were you I'd stick to CloneDVD and AnyDVD. They are probably the fastest and most reliable dvd app available. For little fee of course!

I think it's the disc that determines this. Well, the DVD player too of course.

Some burners are able to "booktype" DVD+R discs (not DVD-R) to make them look like DVD-ROM (which is the format a store bought DVD is) to DVD players. Not all burners are able to do this and not all software is able to do this. DVD Decrypter will do this and is free and will burn ISO images of DVDs.

With the DVD X Copy Platinum, I was able to play the burned discs on a regular DVD player. My player doesn't read +/- R burned discs, but it was able to read burned Xcopies. Im trying to find another reliable program that has the same capability.

Since it played your Xcopy disks on your player you must have been recording them on +R media, so just keep using them. You can do all the protections with AnyDVD and CloneDVD this is a great combo. You can also dl the free programs DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink and use these. They are available at this site along with guides.

Actually, I was able to burn Xcopy on -R and worked perfectly. Unfortunately, the Xcopy program is not working on the newer protection. I do have DVD Shrink and I just downloaded DVD Decrypter. I have yet to try the decrypter program.

Now since I have all these programs on my laptop, will AnyDVD conflict with DVD Decrypter or visa versa?

You can run AnyDVD in the background with Shrink and it should rip and encode your movie, and then use Decrypter to burn, unless you have Nero and you can use that. It is not advisable to run AnyDVD with Decrypter as it can cause some conflicts, although I have and have not had any problems. Make sure you read the guides on the use of the programs they explain the process very well.
