PSX Resident Evil Questions

Hi I was wondering if the PSX Resident Evil games (1-3) are somehow protected. I had a Slimline PS2 and Breaker Pro and they all booted and played fine,then I gave them both to a friend because I got my V7 PS2 working again (new lazer). A year went by and I got my Breaker Pro CD back,it was sort of scratched up and when I went use it my V7 just makes a lot of clicking and ticking sounds,and wouuld usually get a disc read error,but it would boot ok about 1 out of every 20 times, and will even boot all my other PSX games,except for any PSX Resident Evil game. Anyway I figured that maybe the disc was scratched so I read the forums and found out that I can use PSX Gameshark Lite so I got one. And it works fine except, for my Resident Evil games,and when I play the IMBnes(I have all of my roms in alphabetical order) I cant play a game past the letter W. (TOC issue ?). I don't know why these things happen. I've ordered another Breaker Pro CD. I hope it works ok. Any advice would be greatly appriciated. I've heard that v7 s have issues with specific games but I couldn't find a list anywhere..........

I don't think The Resident Evil series games are protected, i've got all 3 of them, and they play just fine.
