They are all good correct? I mean spindle vs, jewel cases?
They don't discriminate as to what type by packaging do they?
Best buy has 25 count of 16X DVD+R's in a spindle for $19.99. Seems like a decent deal.
Advice please.

qwik4a6- Yes assuming that you are getting genuine verbatims (which you would be @ bestBUy whether they are in jewel cases or spindles is immaterial ! There may be cosmetic differences depending on what type DVD+R or DVD-R and Generic versus retail but as long as the disc code out as verbatim's you should be okay!for instance if you would care to spend a little more for a lot more media might I suggest Verbatim Printable DVD-R 4.7GB 16X - 100 pk.$41.63 @ SAMSCLUB.COM assuming of course you have one near you or can order online. A 100 DVD-R blanks for under $50.00 is good in my book anyday especially if they are VERBATIMS or Taiyo Yudens ! but you should purchase what you want and the amounts you want I am only suggesting this as a value I neither work for sams club or own any stock in walmart just passing the info along for whomever wants to use it!I asked basically the same question to VERBATIM when NEWEGG.com Had the GENERIC VERBATIMS on sale for About $30.00 dollars awhile back and they told me what I've told you that The only difference between the GENERIC DVD+R or DVD-R media and the retail ones (LIke BESTBUY ) sells is cosmetic otherwise it's the same high quality media differing only in apperance or packaging- eg: jewel cases versus spindle ect! Hope this helps answer your question . always glad to help to the extent of my limmited (very limmited ) knoweldge) Peace & happy burning !!!!!and yes they're all good!!!

Sorry guys but am a newbie so be gentle. I have read here that discs made in Taiwan are hit and miss. Does it matter if the Verbatims are made in Taiwan or not? I am talking the ones at Sam's or OD this week. Thanks for help. I bout a 100 of Memorex a week or so ago and I am trying to correct my error.:-) Thanks

cliffli10- the ones @ sams are good like OFFUCE DEPOt OFFICE DEPOT has the better price . No in the case of VERbATIM being from Taiwan is Okay Because Verbatim Makes Excellent Media! The general consensus from what I've learned here & from experience cliffli10 is that - when buying dvd media It's best to buy the Made in japan media - this would be FUji's that are Made in Japan (Taiyo Yuden) manufactured them for fuji - Sony media Made in japan (Also Made By Taiyo Yuden For Sony) Taiyo Yuden Media - from Supermediastore.com or Meritline . Com or Rima .com Also Some of the Maxell DVD media are also Made in Japan and are quite excellent! Verbatims are mainly amde in Taiwan But are almost universally regarded by most afterdawn.com memebers as excellent media, . So you might want to try them if you find them somewhere. If you have the option of buying media here's what you might consider a simple Guide - 1. Made in Japan get media that is japan made if you can! 2.If you can't find any japanese made dvd media either locally or online -unlikely your next best option would be made in Taiwan media preferably Verbatims ! 3. Avoid media made in HONG KONG - as it generally regardrded as being crap! 4. You may consider ordering your blank DVD media online - this is efficient and often less expensive especially if there's free shipping ! but if you order online stay with established brands like taiyo yuden or verbatim or possibly ritek you may find other brands being pushed by online merchants that are generic /off brand and more often than not poor qaulity - also the off brand media is often made by different manufactures from one batch to another so you never know if you are getting a good one or not !5..also you can order from whomever you like but -Supermediastore.com -Rima.com - Newegg.com & Meritline.com are all good companies to deal with something to consider . . 6. Buy some DVD+RW or DVD-RW media to experiment they coast a little more but you can experiment on them and if you make a coaster you just erase the disc and start again! when your happy with the results then make a DVD+R or DVD-R permanent copy! These are just some suggestions my friend cliffli10 feel free to take them and learn ! so good day Peace & Happy Burning!

BIGTOXY69 and all....thank you so much for the information. I did not expect such a reply but I see that everyone here is serious about providing the best advice to us newbies and I appreciate it. Especially about testing your burn first and them making copies. I thought I was okay with a few backups. Decided to test them out and had six bad burns...some that would not load at all and some that would play to a point and die. Not sure why though but will try again with these Verbs that I will buy this afternoon. Any advice on what software is best or your personal favorites. Have the old X-COPY Gold but no activation left. Tried the trail for CloneDVD2, 1Click, and ICopyDVDToo. Saw the DVD Decrypter etc..How long does it take to make copies with it or any of the other freeware. etc? I am sticking with the 4x burn though ..I will look in the proper thread for the reply if needed. Thanks again to all..

cliffli10- Glad we could help ! many different afterdawn members use different DVD programs and have favaorite DVD burners that they prefer. But most i belleve use DVD Shrink & DVD Decrypter & or DVD FAB DECRYPER . all are freeware and they all work most of the time! DVD Decrypter will rip and burn your dvd onto one single layer DVD-R or DVD+R disc provided it a dvd movie that will fit onto one disc completly . like about 4.7 or less gigabytes if your movie is larger than that you use DVD Shrink to compress or shrink your video down to fit on one dvd hence the name DVD Shrink! the easy way to remember it is DVD Shrink rips amd compresses your original dvd to your hard drive . DVD Decrypter does decryption- and burning but does'not compress your video in other words if your original is a 8 gigabyte movie your decryoted hard drive file will be too. many members use DVD Decrypter first then run the resulting file through DVD Shrink to shrink it thrn decrypter again to burn it to dvd or their favorite burning program like Nero or Roxio . I normally use shrink and then Roxio (EASY CD & DVD CREATOR 6 Platinum) that's what I have & am familiar with so that's what I use . Occasiobally the copy protectiob schemes that the movie studios use to keep us from making fair use copies /backups of our movies will cause DVD Shrink to freeze up or stop during the analysis Phase of recording and usually you can cure this problem by using DVD Decrypter first then shrink! mmost of the time though no problems. I also mentioned DVD FAB DECRYPTER - This is another freeware program that is like DVD Decrypter in that it is only a ripper - it gets the signal from your dvd movie disc to your hard drive that's all ! but it is still a good program to have because DVD Decrypter is no longer being upgraded it still works great but as new copy protections come out it might not be able to crack them! DVD Fab DECRYPTER is a current program that I understand is still being upgraded as needed! hope this gives you a little more help ! cliffli10- peace & happy burning!

cliffli10- sorry - as to your other qustion - once you have the video on your hard drive it takes onlly minutes to burn depending on the speed you want to burn your DVD at 4x is a good speed and takes about 15 minutes (on my computer) ripping the dvd onto your hard drive may take variable amounts of time -depending on your computer speed MHZ your dvd drive & how large the movie file is ect. I know this sounds like a cop out but different computers will process at different speeds I find my computer takes 1.5 to 3.0 hrs. depending but your resuilts may vary - Again Peace & happy Burning!

BIGTOXY69....thank you so much!!!! I got lucky today also. I got the Verbs at OD and then I went to Best Buy just to look at the Fuji's. They had three 100 spindles made in Japan...YUDEN0002 T02. I could not believe it. Of course I found out they were T02 when I got home.
Thanks for the education...

The Fuji's that I got had the thick bottomed spindle. I had heard somewhere before that this type of bottom were Yuden but I had never had a chance to test it. Now I know it is true. These three that I bought looked as if they had been there for awhile. They were all the way in the back. I bought a couple of the 30 packs from Staples and they were Yuden also. But all of mine said Made In Japan.

cliffli10- did the spindle have the black bases or the greyish /white ones I used to find that they ones with the grey bases were Japan made but that's not an absolute indicator anymore becuase I've found the Taiwan Fuji's in the grey spindles and The Japan Fuji's in the black based spindles ! just about all the japanese fuji's I've bought lately have the black bases ! so The best thing is to just look for the Made in japan on the packaging! good luck again and enjoy your Fuji's Peace & happy Burning!

BIGTOXY69 - Yes, you are correct. These had the black base. I just happened to go over to Staples today for some printer ink. They had the 30 pack Fuji on special buy for 9.94. Some where Made in Japan and some Taiwan. I had bought some before. So I decided to check the code when I got home. The made in japan ones are: +R are Yuden 002 and -R are TYG02. From there I went to BJ's for gas and since I got the bug. I decided to check in BJ's. They have the Fuji 50 pack made in japan for 22 and change but they have a 7.00 coupon good until the 19th of August. That's make it about 16.00 bucks for 50 and 32.00 for 100.00. Now all I need to do is to find me about six or eight more coupons.:-)

cliffli10- Go BoY Go - As you said " Now you've got the Bug !) Good find by the way @ BJ"S - Not familair with them but sounds like a deal to me ! .32 cents for Fuji japan media us a great price so pat yourself on the back! Normally bestbuy sells them onsale for about $38.00 -$40.00 dollars or so for the hundred Spindles and about $20.00 for the 50 pk so the price per ends up being about .40 ea . + taxes for me me anything .50 cents or under each is as Martha Stewart used to say a GOOD Thing !Enjoy your new hobby & have fun cliffli10- Bye for now PEACE & HAPPY BURNING!
