For anyone going to buy retail this week Sony media is on sale at CompUSA, BestBuy, and Staples for 19.99 for 50. Also for those interested in dual layer BestBuy has a 10 pack for 40.00 which is a good deal. I highly recommend these dual layer Verbs, they burn flawlessly :)

arniebear- Thanx's O' wise one for the heads up ! I read the weekly sales either online or in print but always check AFTERDAWN.COM too just incase I miss something . Also I can often find out more here than at the stores so here I am! thanx again Peace & happy Burning!

Just thought I would put it out there for those who don't check or get a newspaper it is easier to just come here. And that deal on dual layer is the cheapest I have seen, hope my BB has some in stock last time CompUSA had a sale they were sold out fast. Peace and happy burning to you BIGTOXY69 :)

I just went to best buy and picked up the 50 pack of Sony DVD-R's.

@ arniebear: That post indicates that Sony DVD-R media is made in Taiwan. Is the made in Japan version still a rebadged TY as it has been in the past?

Again,my nearby staples had the japanese and taiwanese +1x-8x sony spindles all mixed together. The plus format,japanese ones are still Yuden000-T02.
I didn't locate any of the made in japan on their dash 1x-8x.They were all Made in Taiwan.They should code as Sony08D1,the same as the japanese ones.

I just bought one...I'm looking at it now and it says 'Made in Taiwan'...Should I exchange it for one made in Japan?

scashaggy, Which format did you get?
If it's the plus format,I've burned both the japanese and taiwanese and they all performed identical.They both could easily burn at 16x im my benqs.For the same price,i get the japanese.
The dash sony 1x-8x taiwanese I have not tried.
You may want to exchange them if it's feasable.

the +Rs are excellent! 50 in a spindle made 50 perfect backups! TYs & Sonys & Verbatims for me!!!!! that's all I'll buy! I tried Maxells, even though they are supposed to be rated better than TYs, Sony, and Verbatiums.... I never had a problem with the spindle of 25 that I bought but couldn't justify the added price that they were when I can get TYs, Sonys and Verbatims for a cheaper price...... and when I held a Maxell disk and a TY or Sony disks together and compared how they felt and looked ...... TYs & Sony just felt so much more balanced than the Maxells!

@arniebear - hang on - that graph states 'Bulkpaq TYG02' - they're FAKE ones....

i think arniebear means that they were purchased "in bulk" from supermediastore, i have never seen them selling the "bulkpaq" brand media before...as i know you have had your fair share of those crappy azz fakes~!
i am assuming that those TYGO2s that arniebear scanned are actually the genuine Taiyo Yuden non-branded ones from supermediastore. :)

i will 2nd and 3rd and 22nd the opinion of Sony media...get the made in japan ones...also, stanh1000, from what i know of Sony media, the 8x DVD-R have NEVER been Taiyo Yuden made...the 4x Sony DVD-R made in japans were TYGO1s, but the 8x were NOT the TYG02s. i think you have it confused with the Fuji brand 8x DVD-R MADE IN JAPANs were TYG02s. :) just wanted to clarify that for you...

i know, i'd assume that's what he means too. that's twice i've seen bulkpaq in last week, once was spelt bulkpack the other spelt bulkpaq. my eyes mist up a red colour when i see the name however it's spelt. am dealing with a couple threads that have potientally got Fake TY at the moment, but can't remember which threads they are :)

They are genuine TY the have the id on the inner hub can't say what it is though because I am not looking at them at the moment, but only genuines would scan out that good. Just used the bulpaq term because they came in 100 taped up pack. I think I will go back and see if I can edit so their is not confustion.
If you want to see some nasty scans of fake TY's here is a thread, those orange bulkpaqs of creakys looked like his, awful :)

Yes, we have to make them repent their crap media ways. Makes me want to go back when I get some time and test some of my old burns to make sure. I got check those new Verb I bought to make sure they are not a bad batch, something is off about them.
