first of all nothing is gonna matter until you get a mod.either a modchip or swap discs with magic switch or fliptop.until then you wont be able to play any games you do successfully backup.

dvd-r are the old format while DVD+R are the new format.the only major difference is that some older players dont play DVD+R too well or not at all.DVD+R seem to have a better quality to them but it mostly depends on the burner you have.DVD-RW are eraseable discs that you can erase and put other stuff on it while the other discs are not erasable.DVD-RW dont have great quality and not too many people have gotten them to work on a ps2.

an important question:do you have a dvd writer?not just a dvd rom drive.

check your dvd rom properties in DVD Decrypter.if you dont have DVD Decrypter just click on the blue text to download it.you would go to the tools option then drive then capabilties to see if it can write to dvdr.

if you dont haxe a writer then you would obviously need to get one.i have no idea which is the best as there is so many out there.but you would like to get a double layer 16x rewriter if you can.most rewriters work good the only one ive heard that was bad consistenly was samsung drives.you have to shop and compare to find the deals as i dont know of any good deals.i havent been in the market for a rewriter.when you get the rewriter it should come with instructions unless you buy it used.stay away from ebay if you try to buy an used rewriter as a lot of broken crap gets sold on there.but you might luck out and already have a burner.

so you need a rewriter and somekind of mod for your ps2 to start backing up games.swap magic is probably the cheapest and easiest mod to buy.they are swap discs so you dont have to solder a chip to the motherboard.

Check out some of the forums (use search bar at the top) to see which DVD writers are good and which are not so good. I have a Pioneer DVD-109 which is great and pioneer usually releases firmware in order to improve the dvd writers operations/performance etc...

do i have to get a double layer and how do i know if it's a double layer, and if i get a double layer should i get double layer cd's, and you know i was having a problem from the beginning and it wouldn't burn so do think i would still have to shrink games and if so, can you send me the instructions, you know wat can you just send them in case some game is to big, and once i get the burner and mod chip what kind of cd's should i get, thanks

its dvds not cds.though there are some ps2 games that are cd.but not many.you dont have to get a double layer but getting the best available writer would be a benefit.and your burner would determine which is the best media to use.

you dont shrink games.you alter them by extracting them (removing free space or unnecessary data) or by using a ripkit or tool.and its different for alot of games.most games will copy with no need for altering.

no need to get ahead of yourself.wait till you get everything you need then ask these questions.im sure afterdawn will still be here.if you ask too many questions now, when you get everything you probably will have forgotten everything and have to ask the same questions again.besides youll probably confuse yourself more than you would help yourself.

Why not spend a few extra bucks and get a more reputable brand like Lite On or Pioneer. You'll be able to get yourself one of these burners - most of which are dual layer - for around US$50. Just shop around for a good deal.
