The last few chapters of the dvd's i have burned look terrible. Every once in a while during the beginning of middle of movie, i'll see something flash on the screen like a pixelation problem or read error of somekind. But towards the end of the movie it comes up a lot, and the voices cut in and out and it freezes for a second or 2. I am using dvd shrink to rip it, and i am burning w/ Dynex dvd+r discs. My dvd burner is a lite on and burns at 16x and the discs are 16x as well. Can someone please help me figure out this problem?

I haven't heard of Dynex media,very suspicious-quality wise.

Download this free handy program to find the mfg code:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...

Since those issues are on the end of your backups, using DVD Shrink set your backup target to:
1)Edit
2)preferences
3)click on DVD-5 and scroll till it says custom
4)To the right of custom,enter 4360
5) click ok.

This is your new backup target. This prevents the outer edge of the disc from being burned. The outer edge is vulnerable to uneven dye.

Too fast of burn speed can cause these problems.4x is par for most of us.

It could also be many other reasons, but these are the first things to check.

Let us know what those discs ID as and how fast you burn them.

Too much compression can also contribute to those issues.

Do you backup entire disc or reauthor it?

Those 16x Dynex should ID as RICOHJPNR03 which are not bad. What is the model of your Lite-on burner and is the firmware up to date on it? Also as Saugmon states to fast a burn can cause this it is better to burn at 4x it produces less errors.

The model of my dvd drive is Lite On SOHW-1673S06C. I don't understand why it would burn to the end, i reauthor everything i have burned to just the main movie. Some of which are only 90 minutes long w/ no compression, so i don't see how it could burn to the outer edges of the disc. I have been burning at 16x, i will try and slow that down and see how that works. Thanks for all your help guys, keep those suggestions coming. Also, what if firmware?

I tried burning at 6x, that was the lowest DVD Shrink would allow me to go, and it still did terrible. I don't know what else to do. Do you think it could be my dvd burner? I already emailed the company asking for an exchange.

How are you viewing those backups, Stand alone player/pc drive/or both?

Try to view one of those problematic backups in your pc,using the drive that burned it. Also test it out on other stand alones to see how they play, especially toward the end of the movie.

I have the same problem. Everything I burn is junk. The same drive the same problem, in the middle of the movie it gets all fubared. The slower I burn the worse it gets. Would like to know if anything fixed it for you or was your drive just bad. Please let me know.

Welcome to AD aggie1138. I'm not sure what helped sosafan 19.

There can be a slew of things to cause those issues:
1)Poor quality media-Gotta have the quality stuff.
2)Burned too fast/too slow!
3)Poor quality burner/weak-some stand alones can pick them out.
4)dirty laser in stand alone player/weaker-more wear and tear.
5)Paper/sticker labels
6)Fragmented harddrive
7)Burn engine-try another burn program
8)File transfers- Jpeg/avi/bup to dvd.
9)Spyware/malware

It can make a big difference on how you are viewing those backups.
PC or stand alone player?

First thing: Verify those backups on other players/game consoles/and pc drives and see how they react to them. The more drives, the better.

Second: Verify those backups on your DVD-RW drive.Play them using a program like windvd/powerdvd/etc. You don't have to view them completely, just the area where those issues occur. Your DVD-RW drive should play them near perfection.

After seeing how all those drives react to those discs, then we can help narrow down the cause. Also post back some info like burner and stand alone model numbers, programs you are using in your process, what you are backing up,and how you are backing them up-step by step.

Lots of things can happen on dvd backups,so we've got to eliminate media quality first, burner quality, and the stand alone player-which is usually the culprit after the all those are eliminated. Paper/sticker labels also a big no-no.

Also post back the brand name/speed rate/format/and how fast you burn on your blank media. An MID code would really help out or a Nero burn log if that is what you use to burn.

Issues on the last few chapters is most likely a different reason than the middle of the backups.Post back some info. The more info, the better so we can narrow it down and hopefully get you going without purchasing new equipment.

Thanks for all the help. Just to fill you in on what happen with my issue. I was using Liteon's S0HW-1673S Dual Layer PC Burner. I was burning single layer dics DVD-R(Fuji, Imation/CMC). I burned at 8x,6x,4x,2-2.4x, and 1x. It started as just the end of the video, then the middle and finally the entire disc was crap. I tried firmware updates and even different programs (CloneDVD2, DVDShrink, Nero....) all with the same product. I even reloaded XP! After all that I slaved in another Liteon I forgot that my kids had, just a regular DVD burner...and it work with no problems. So it must be the drive. I called Liteon and I am shipping out the drive for a new one on Monday. Thanks for the reply, there is alot on this website I see that is very interesting and helpful.

Again thanks,

Aggie

Every now and then a bad drive leaves the factory. Happens to all of them: Plextor/benq/litey/ pioneer. At least the customer support seems very good at lite on.

Those fuji and imation cmags: If you still encounter issues, try some of the Japanese fuji/sony/maxell/ty or verbatim. Fuji does use some lower quality manufacturers in the dash format, usually the spindles that say Made in Taiwan on the wrapper.

Post back when you get the new drive.
