I was just wondering if there is way to retain the menu in the dvd?

Since when you use shrink to reauthor to get rid of the junk (previews...warnings..etc), it automatically deletes the menus too. So is there way to rejoin the menu? Or another program that will put the menu back in once shrink is done working?

What I do with shrink or Nero recode is have AnyDVD run in the background with the setting 'remove annoying adverts and trailer' & jump directly to main movie' checked. If the info tab shows it did this I then make the extras a still pic. AnyDVD pushes the previews and warnings to the back.
Other members here love DVD RB & CCE.

Thanks binkie7. ALso your welcome for my thought in the other post. I didnt know AnyDVD could automatically do that. Now is there way to reinsert the menu after shrink reauthors the dvd?

Oh sorry forgot to mention don't use reauthor for the method above. Just do full back up. Make all the extra still pics if you like. I usually keep the deleted scenes.
I would recommend looking into DVD RB & CCE. High quality and can edit the movie keeping the menus. I haven't had the time to use it.

Another proggy I use and love is DVDRemake. It will allow you to remove or save whatever you want. No annoying still pictures and wasted space on your blank (although it will let you replace with still pictures if you like but that kind of defeats the purpose).

I use it to remove previews, warning screens, any adverts and trailers AnyDVD didn't remove leaving a functional menu, the movie, bloopers, deleted/extended scenes, alt endings and whatever extras I DO want. You can then run it through the encoder/transcoder of your choice (I use DVD-RB/CCE). Here's the link. http://www.dimadsoft.com/products.php

Surprised no one clued you in. Instead of going into reauthor with Shrink, stay in full disc backup. Click on the segments you don't want to keep and select still image (not still pictures) in compression settings. That inserts a still image and edits out the segment. That way you can do a movie only backup and retain the menu.

Funny on the Nero and AnyDVD, my system isn't crashing. You may want to take a look at your task manager to see what's happening. Sounds like your system is somehow getting overloaded, even with all the resources you have.

Yes I did look at the task manger brobear. Nero recode was running at a 100% and anydvd about 10%...so then recode would crash. I can run anydvd and decryptor or shrink together without no prob. Its very weird consider I got their latest upgrade (nero) and I only installed 1 and 2 package...since everyone was saying the rest (like incd) was trouble.

Thanks...that may be the answer Im looking for. Im going try it out right now..lol. :>

BTW...nothing else was running when I did anydvd and recode together....only had 22 processes running which is the most I could get it down to.

Thank you mort. I have tried dvd remake pro before, but I could never seem to get it right. I tried three different titles with disastrous results. Maybe I should keep experimenting. Do you know of any guides?

I learned about the Still Image insertion last year when the final Shrink version was being prepared. I downloaded the "Simple" 3kb image so I would have the smallest in order to save every little bit of space when needed. When you select Still Image in the compression settings, it'll give you a link where you can download more still images. Still Image was added to allow editing in the full backup mode. Unfortunately, many of the guides haven't been updated, so this procedure still isn't in many of the manuals for Shrink. Unlike in Reauthor, the menu stays active in Full Backup mode.

There was a guide at the DimadSoft site for DVDRemake. http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremakepro/info.php

Note:That's the DVDRemake site, and the link should take you to the download. In the latest version, in Help, the option for guide download is there.

CloneDVD 3 is good for splitting dual-layer discs and keeping menus on BOTH single-layer copies. But if you have to do any compression on CloneDVD, it is terrible, even at 98% compression. DVDShrink is the best at compression.

Not to argue but DVD Shrink can't touch dvdremake with dvd-rb/cce for video quality and editing especially at higher compression levels.

Since someone brought it up... RB/CCE does such a good job, very little editing is needed. In fact I've gotten to the point I don't do any. AnyDVD skips adverts and sets the path to the menu or the movie. That gets done in the rip. Then I do the entire disc and let RB remove the additional languages, audio and subtitles (preset). I have DVDReMake, but it is one of the good apps I have that sets idle quite a bit. For that matter, DVDCopy3 is faster and better than Shrink, not free though.

I didn't mention that because this is a Shrink thread and RB has been covered well in other sections. I just thought I'd mention how the feat of active menus and editing is done with Shrink, the original question.

Thanks so much for all the responses. I really appreciate it. How bout this? What is rb? Insted of cce will rb work wit mainconcept encoder? Because I already have it installed./

Also thanks for the guide for dvdremake brobear, but is there any others you know of? That guide has sections that are incomplete.

RB is a program that utilizes some of the more popular encoders to encode DVD videos for DVD5 backup. I think the link is http://www.dvd-rb.com .

RB works with the free HC encoder supplied with the Pro version. Procoder works, as well as the CCE. QuEnc is another freeware option. It doesn't support the mainconcept encoder.

I'm not aware of any other DVDRemake guides, but there are some help threads here on AD.
