Does anyone know what I've done wrong? I want to convert a 350 Mb .avi file to mpeg (I've already splitted the avi)with Tmpgenc but the mpeg turns out to be 1.5 Gb. How can I get this thing smaller?

VCD compliant mpg files will always be about 10MG per minute, so the size of the file, irrespective of the quality of the input will always be proportional to its length. Basically this means that any 70 minute VCD will be about 700MB, whatever quality the avi was.

Paul,

Ok. Thanks for your reply!
But how can I fix this problem. The movie I want to convert is 8 Mile and is only about 700 Mb. But when I want to convert this with tmpgenc it turns out to be 3 Gb.

Don't drink too much though..:-)

Then what you got isn't an mpg 1 file. If it was, then 8 mile would be about 5 hours long, and I don't think the average 8 mile fan's attention would last that long. Heck, I'm not sure they are even awake ;-)

Anyway, maybe the file is something else, you say you made this with TMPGenc? You could have made a DVD in MPEG2, that would be about right for that length movie. But somewhat pointless, as IMHO a good divx converted into a DVD is a waste, as the quality would be the same converted into VCD or (possibly?) SVCD.

When you use TMPGEnc, forget the wizard and try to create VCD file (mpeg1). Let me know how you get on.

Paul.
