I'm looking for a way to capture small parts of a dvd. Example would be, a Fighting DVD. Its a double layer DVD and when i loaded it up in DVD Shrink there wasn't enough extras to get rid of to maintain a decent compression.

All I really want from the DVD are the fights which could last only a few minutes. Theres tons of time in between fights that i don't want. Having a seperate clip for each fight would be fine, actually preferred. These clips would stay on my HD, or possible be burned as a data dvd to be watched on my computer.

I would like to rip it with as little quality loss as possible.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

This will be a bit tedious, but you can use the edit start/end point in reathor mode of DVD Shrink to capture each fight individually. After eliminating the "in between" parts, you can recompile them again if you wish.
Here's a guide for compiling videos....

I don't know what you're thinking of as reasonable compression. DVD Shrink will do a decent transcode at high compression as long as you use the "Quality Settings". Shrink will cause some minor change in contrast, but that happens even at no or low compression. If you're wanting to cut segments, as noted, Shrink will work. There are a number of other editing apps, but none others as good as Shrink and free at the same time. There are guides for Shrink on most forums. If you want more expensive and dedicated editing apps, take a look at DVDReMake and DVDLabPro.
