i have downloaded a divx movie and would like to put on dvd to watch on dvd player can anyone tell me how this is done?

yes...

the easiest way is to download an "all-in-one" package such as VSO DivxToDVD or AVI2DVD...

Once you open the program, I assure you it'll take you step by step... in case of doubt ask, ok? btw, there are guides on the Guides section of this forum. IIRC, the DivXtoDVD guide has been updated last on July 29th

Suggestion:

Burn your project first on DVDRW!

dont convert burn the movie as a data disc and go buy a divx player.ive been through all this crap your best bet is to spend about 60.00 for a cheap phillips player and burn your DL movies as data disc . i use roxio7.5 but nero or any burning software will do as long the movie is less than 700mb put it to cdr if its larger than burn a dvd data disc so u wont be changing disc part way through the movie. converting takes hours data disc takes 2-3min tops

It's a possibility, the only thing you have to keep in mind is that codecs need to match. Sometimes those players can be very picky. Do as you please :-)
