So I've been backing up dvd's for quite some time now. It used to take me around 20 mins to rip and 20 mins to burn with my 16x NEC drive. Now its taking close to an hour to rip and an hour to burn.

I'm backing up LotR: Return of the King right now and its taking an hour and 45 minutes to rip alone! What is going on??? I usually use DVDX just cause its the easiest but lately I've used AnyDVD and DVDD and Shrink...They are all ripping and burning at like 1x I've tried two different types of media, some cheap stuff that I've used over 100 of and I just got some Verbatim made in Taiwan.

What can I do to get this back to normal? Its really annoying.

Thanks,
-Grant

Make sure you are in DMA mode and not PIO mode.
Here's a link if you need help:

My secondary controller was in PIO mode so I switched it to DMA...We'll see if that fixes it. I don't know why it would just randomly start taking longer though. I haven't done anything to change it...weird.

Thanks for the help.

So after I tried what was on that pdf file my secondary controller is still in PIO mode. Its really weird though. After it didn't switch by just selecting DMA in the dropdown menu I uninstalled it as it said to do and then when I clicked 'yes' to restart my computer my tower made this weird buzz noise and it wouldn't let me restart. I then went to 'start > shut down > restart' only to get the weird buzz noise and no restart.

So I used the reset button on my tower and got it restarted but its still in PIO mode. I popped in Road to Perdition and DVDX said it was gonna take an hour and a half to rip. What would happen if I switched my drives on the cable? Would that switch my dvd burner to the primary controller?

Thanks,
-Grant
