Verbatim is one of the best brands there is next to TY, Sony and Maxell. And as far as I know they are the only ones who make -R dual layer disks. I have used the +R dual layer Verbatim and they come out perfect.

Take my word for it Verbatim makes a quality product. If your burner is capable of booktyping +R to -R format you do not need to use the -R. Otherwise, good luck and happy burning.

The sony 800a is a rebadged lite-on something or other and will be able to booktype via a few different methods
Main PC ~ Intel C2Q Q6600 (G0 Stepping)/Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3/2GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500/Zalman CNPS9700/Antec 900/Corsair HX 620W
Network ~ DD-WRT ~ 2node WDS-WPA2/AES ~ Buffalo WHR-G54S. 3node WPA2/AES ~ WRT54GS v6 (inc. WEP BSSID), WRT54G v2, WRT54G2 v1. *** Forum Rules ***

Your slacking arniebear,don't let it happen again! LOL:
Quote: If your burner is capable of booktyping +R to -R format you do not need to use the -R.
It should be: If your burner is capable booktyping +r to dvd-rom.
This altering the format of plus media fools stand alone players into thinking they are dvd-rom,the more universally compatable format.
I also use the verbatim +r DL, very good.

Time for a beating, (hangs head in shame). Those dual layer Verbs are really good though not a glitch in any of them I have done. The Ritek's are not bad either and a little cheaper.

I'll let you off with a warning this time,next time it comes out of your pay! LOL
The prices of those DL's have dropped to $3.50 now locally-on sale,so I can now dabble with what I coveted for so long.Still pretty pricey-but I can tinker with it now.
My very reliable sony dvp-ns325 has been causing me some problems on the plus r and now recently on the dash r and +DL's. The disc cleaning helped some,but it may be on its way to the scrap yard-RIP!. My benq played the +DL's just fine.
Time for another reliable player for the DL media.I guess I'll go get that $35 magnavox-Walmart special.

Thank your for the warning, my pay has been a little on the low side lately, lol :O
Yeah, I had a Sanyo that was the only one of my players that was freezing on the dual layers. My old Toshiba was handling them fine, I replaced it with a Sony and they play beautifully, but I am afraid my 3 year old Apex is the next to hit the dustbin. The firmware in the older ones just does not seem to handle the new dl's.

@mgdking,
If your dvd player and dvd burner is capable of handling the +R, then I recommend you to get it over the -R. However, that's only my preference of choice, and the decision is yours to make.
