How do I play PSX backups on my PS2? I went to Nero, copy CD (Final Fantasy 4 from FF Chronicles), read and write 52x, and Swap Magic and CDLoader wouldn't read it. Then I tried with a Gameshark for PS1 (version 5, CD based) that I recently bought, and after about 1/2 a minute of reading, it says its a bad disc and to insert a Sony disc. Has anybody succesfully booted a PSX backup by using a version 5 Gameshark for PS1? Or would slowing down the read and write speed make a difference?
Not being mean and everything, but what is with you people and modchips? Don't you get ever get the feeling that things can go bad?
Say something fries in your PS2 after you install your modchip? Who's going to repair it? Not Sony. And if you live in a place like Chicago, you know there's nobody well known for PS2 repairing and modding. Now you have to send your PS2 out (shipping for those size packages doesn't come cheap) to get repaired for twice the price Sony would normally charge you (if at all). After waiting 2-4 weeks for your PS2, you get it back with at least $30 bucks less in your pocket. And how do you know the guy didn't repair so you send you PS2 back in another month or two? Same goes for "professional installers". One mistake can cost you, whether money for repairs or money for a new PS2. I'd rather stay safe and go with boot discs and a slide card. All I have to do is take the black bar at the end of the eject disc tray off and spend about 30-60 seconds more to load my game. Now compare 30-60 seconds more of loading or voiding your warranty and paying for all repairs needed. Call me cheap, but I'd rather be cheap and safe than have a "better" modchip and be unsafe.
And what do you mean that I shouldn't burn at that speed? I've burned Stinky's AIO disc at that speed and haven't had any problems. Does it damage your PS2 or something?
There's nothing wrong with Swap methods, its a perfectly good option. However, he's right that Swap Magic 3 will not boot PS1 backups. For that you will probably require a:
As for the difficult repairs, thats just a part of the modchip side of things. Its a price you pay for the convenience they provide (direct booting of all media, dvd region free, app loading, hdd support, etc etc). Hopefully if you had an experienced installer do it for you, and you take good care of your hardware, nothing will go wrong. I have a v4 with the original China Messiah still working today.
Do you know if a gameshark v5 for ps1 on a ps2 works with swap methods? I want to know if anybody has succesfully loaded a copied ps1 game with a gameshark v5 for ps1 on a ps2 with swap methods because I don't want to spend another $20-$30 without knowing that I absolutely had to buy it first.
