I've gotten this message along with a data error a few times now and I'm getting kind of mad. What do I have to do to back up a dvd that says this? Should I use a different program or is there a way to do it with DVD Shrink?

That code generally indicates a fault on the DVD you're trying to copy. You can try to clean it well, use DVD Decrypter or replace the disc.

The CRC error may also show up if you are trying to use Shrink on a new encryption that Shrink can't handle. As stated Decrypter should be able to handle the new encryptiond for now.

If cleaning the disc doesn't help and it looks badly scratched up.Try a disc repair kit like the Skip Dr.
Try the latest version of DVD Decrypter .
Another thing to note, some of these newer encryptions are giving DVD Shrink a crc error.I use AnyDVD by slysoft to help DVD Shrink pull off that encryption.Just look in the software tab under dvd-rippers for a free 21 day trial.Since DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter aren't being updated- this program is updated regularly and is a great program.
Write down the titles of the dvds that are giving you problems.Use the search function here to see if they relate to any other titles and there are a bunch of titles that gave crc errors because of the encryptions.
If your titles don't match them, then you may have a damaged or a plain "Bum"- badly pressed disc.

What movie? There are some movies that Shrink alone cannot handle the protection on. As stated try using DVD Decrypter if you still get a I/O error then clean it or get another original.

This might seem strange but when I have tried at times to back-up a couple of my daughters movies (look like she really scratched them up) my internal NEC Dl burner could not get past some of the big scratches, after cleaning the disk, I then used my external (firewire connected) Sony DRU 800 dl and it shrink was able to analize the complete disk with no problems. Then I would use any program (Rebuilder Pro/CCE, Intervideo Copy 3 Platinum, CloneDVD 2) and make my back-up, using the internal NEC as the burner. Beyond cleaning you can use DVD Decrypter to skip the hard to read sectors then use shrink to analze and burn the ISO image (w/Nero or Decrypter)
Hope this helped!

How do I burn something I backup with Decrypter? I have it, but I've only used it for games.

arniebear is passing on good info. Decrypter, Fab Decrypter, and even SmartRipper are all free (no need for AnyDVD (I prefer personally) and Region+CSS Free. Shrink is simple to use, yet can provide a very sharp and pleasing picture. I use shrink to see if any scratched disks can be analized...if so then I typically use Intervideo Copy 3, or Clone Dvd 2; for major compression jobs I believe Rebuilder Pro/CCE basic is hard to beat. Rebuilder is not as difficult to use as it may seem and you can download the installer package at www.dvd-rb.com Goo Luck
