I've been reading the forums here lately and noticed alot of people recommend against using dvdxcopy plat. I was just wondering why, I understand becuse of support reasons. I have bothe DVDXCOPYplat and CLONEDVD both work great especially after buying ANYDVD. Just wondering if i missed something some where. For the record I wouldn't go out and buy DVDXCOPY if i didnt have it. There are other progs, that work just as great. However since i got these two theres no need to get any others yet. Just a n00b wondering if i missed a thread or 2 about why not to use DVDXCOPY.

As long as you are happy with the results and use AnyDVD also, the by all means use it.

I would say the biggest reason people are against recommending XCopy is because of the activation issue.
I know of a few people who still like using XCopy Platinum.
Another reason is the DVD Backup warning XCopy put on the backups. Although that problem can be fixed by using the RF version, not everyone was able to download it.

But whats the big deal about the DVDbackup warning. It dosent bother me, why does it bother others. Seems to me thats exactly what they are macking is a backup. With out it someone could theoretically sell that copy as an original, and no one would too that.. Oh well its a moot point anyways. I was just curious I like using it and probably will til I can't any longer. Though since i upgraded Clonedvd I seem to use it less. When i first got Clonedvd it ran alot slower than DVDXCOPY, but now its just as fast. Thx for the answers.

well what annoyed me about the XCopy warning screen was showed tooo long. And I had an old RCA dvd player that wouldn't play backups made by XCopy. It plays backups made by every other program though ... so that was one reason why I tried other software.

I agree the pause was too long, two of my players would turn off and if I hit the play button long enough they would start the movie. It was either junk the players or find something else, fortunately I found AD, and then had no more XCopy headaches.

One good thing about the newer sony movies, I couldn't copy them with xcopy so went looking for an alternative. I ended up here and by doing lots of reading learned about DVDShrink, DVDDecrypter, AnyDVD, and importantly, to stay away from crap media. So long xcopy, so long memorex! Hello Taiyo Yuden and no coasters!

Can anyone tell me why I'm getting the message with DVDXCopy, "This movie is CSS Encrypted... This version of DVDXCopy (4.0.3.8) will not copy this movie... Would you like more information on CSS Encryption?" then I can click yes or no. Yes goes online and explains what CSS Encryption is and no does nothing. When I got DVDXCopy it was said that it would copy any DVD/movie but it does not copy commercial/Hollywood movies, only those already copied by someone else. That's the only way it will work. Can anyone help? What can I do?

You probably have the ripper free version of the program. You can dl a 21 day trial version of AnyDVD from http://www.slysoft.com and it will just run in the background and break the encryption and DVDXcopy will copy. Or you can try the free programs DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. Decrypter will rip to your hard drive and Shrink will encode and compress and Decrypter will then burn your movie. Guides and software on these programs is available here.

321Rip is only to enable the ripper .. it will not help if you are getting a css encrypted error.
You either need to
1) Get AnyDVD
2) Get the RF version v4.0.4.15RF -> Rip w/ DVD Decrypter and browse for the files and backup.
