No, there shouldn't be a problem as long as there's no encryption.

If you want to backup a backup:

You need quality media in the first place, especially on that original backup you plan to re-rip.It'll be your master copy.

4x burn speed max on that original backup.Higher burning speeds, chances of more errors.Too many errors and you'll get crc errors.

Backup target of 4360 mbs.Just to keep the burn away from that outer edge.

No multi-tasking.You want everything shut down that you can doing that first master copy.

Good strong, quality burner.I've just now noticed it.I've got a HP 640c lightscribe and an I/O Magic 16x writer. These burners had too many errors even using taiyo yuden media that I could not re-rip their backups as easily as my benqs.

You want that first backup to be as error free as possible so you can easily re-rip it later if you have to.

My stand alones and pc drives can't tell a difference, even the ones on the fly and on the re-copy from my hard drive files, off my benqs.

I use:
Nero copy disc
Sonic copy disc
Dvd decrypter Iso read and Iso write
Dvd shrink, just like a normal backup.

vexture, I frequently make back ups of my back ups so that I can use them in multiple rooms. Never a problem, yet I remain true to two critical reminders: 4x or slower for burning speed and HIGH QUALITY MEDIA (TY's and Verbs) I use Denon 2200 Dvd Player and TY's are the one media that it reads flawlessly everytime. My sony's read all media types, yet I receive better quality Progressive scan with Denon with the help of the Silicon Image Pure Progressive scan processor. I know way too much info, yet it is possible to create great back-ups of other back-ups.
Happy burning!

I also use CloneDVD 2, Intervideo Copy 3 Platinum...simply slip your backup in Dvd Rom drive/burner and the blank media in another and hit the burn button, since there is no compression Intevideo burns it on the fly. CloneDVD 2 will make it's temp folder, but then burn to the destination. These are my two favorites, Shrink will do the same, I just prefer the quality of the other two progs. For joining two movies or editing and joining one movie DVD2One does a great job. It seems endless, yet some programs work better than others and it goes back to what works well with your system. Hope this helps!

i use DVD Decrypter for like 99% of my backups of backups, iso read--->iso write~ the main key thing to remember is to slow the burn to 4x and use QUALITY media as the others have mentioned already. you should be JUST FINE with your backup of a backup :)

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

I also prefer the method described by my buddy kivory. No processing of files just rip n burn. Once again the key is quality media and slow burn speeds.
