I have a new slim model PS2 and installed the flip top lid and also got a copy of Swap Magic 3.6 with it. The instructions don't explain squat about how to actually use the program and I'm pissed off cuz this stuff doesn't work! I've been poking around here trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong but I can't come up with anything. I did however see a mention of using Breaker Pro to boot DVD game backups but that wasn't included with this kit or mentioned anywhere when I bought the products. Here's what happens:

Insert Magic 3 Plus DVD ROM DRIVER
Turn on PS2
PS2 boot screen
Swap Magic 3.6 boot screen
"DVD Version 3.6 in top right corner, Load Program/Video Mode" screen
Open lid
"Insert bigger TOC disc" screen
Insert Gran Turismo 4 retail copy
Close lid
"DVD Version 3.6 in top right corner, Load Program/Video Mode, Not a valid PS2 disc" screen
...waiting...waiting...nothing happens
Open lid
"Insert bigger TOC disc" screen
Insert DVD backup of game
Close lid
"DVD Version 3.6 in top right corner, Load Program/Video Mode, Not a valid PS2 disc" screen
...waiting...waiting...nothing happens
Press X
Nothing happens
Press Square
Nothing happens
VERY FRUSTRATED

Pressing X with a retail copy of game will boot that game so what am I doing wrong here? No matter what disc I insert as the "bigger toc disc" it doesn't solve any issues. I've even tried backing games up with different methods and it's always the same results. The backup discs will attempt to spin up but fail. I'm not sure if it could be a media issue, I have Sony DVD+R discs. Do I need to buy a copy of Breaker Pro now too? Thanks guys...I'm F'N pissed!

all of them work fine for me.

Load swap magic
Open fliptop to swap for backup. If it says "insert bigger toc disc" the ps2 knows you opened the top. The ps2 cant know you opened the top if your putting in a burnt game. Also, DONT use gt4.

try pushing down on the back of your fliptop while you open it and swap for a burnt game.

Ok I took the case apart and reinstalled the lid, removed the spring...didn't work. Then I put a strip of masking tape on the back of the case when assembled to keep it more tightly closed...problem solved. Now however I'm having really long load times with my backups, is that to be expected? When I try to burn at 1x my dvd writer burns at 4x so what program can you use to burn at 1x? Thanks.

burn speed isn't as important as using good quality media.

What kind of Media are you using and what progran are you burning the games with? Also if the media doesn't support 1x it will automaticly go to either its fastest burning speed of the media or the next speed up that it can go too...

example: you may have a disc that can only burn at 2x 4x & 8x speeds
or you could have a disc that burns at 4x 8x 16x speeds etc etc...
or any combo of speeds

really depends on the media for it to be able to burn that slow.. 4x should be ok. But I recomend burning at 2x if possible... but 4x is ok if the media calls for it as the lowest possible burn speed.

well, backups i burned at 4x don't work right but backups burned at 8x work perfectly. i have a sony burner and sony DVD+R media and am burning with dvd decryptor. seems to contradict what the popular method is here but it works for me.

I was having the same problem, so i tried your advice. I held down the back ok the aftermarket fliptop cover, then removed the swap magic disc and then hit x. before it just said invalid disc, now it trys to load goes to a black screen and nothing happens. I read above that you were getting long load times, mine is just not loading. The media is sony DVD+R and i burned it at 2.4x. I used DVD Decrypter and read the iso to the hard drive and then DVD Decrypter to write the iso to the disc(the mds file really). The game is time splitters future perfect, which i have read that takes no patches or special stuff. Any advice.
