Hi I've been converting downloaded TV series for a while now using VSODivxtoDVD and then shrinking with DVD shrink 3.2. When I burn the DVD without shrinking the picture and sound are perfect but because I can only fit about 5 episodes on a DVD I need to shrink them. Once I've used DVD shrink the picture pauses about every 10 seconds for a second when people are walking along or the background moves. I've had this problem for about 6 months now and its really annoying in action scenes. It only happens after I've used DVD shrink. I would appreciate any help from anyone who nows how to fix this.

to me there's one of 2 things here - crap quality due to compressing too much onto a disc (ie poor quality video due to rubbish compression) or picture jerky due to bad quality media

Cheers Creaky B. The picture is fine when I use the same disks without DVD Shrink. What should the compression be set at?

How much are you compressing? I quit useing shrink a long time ago because I was also noticing the background moving even at no compression.

The compression is set to automatic. It lets me put 10 episodes on a disk and compresses at about 50%. If you've stop using DVD Shrink is there anything else to use?

even i don't do that many episodes on a disc. the best i do is backup entire discs of stuff like thunderbirds or whatever from the 60's, where the original quality wasn't overly brilliant to start with - there i'm happy with such aggressive compression. over and above that i suspect Mort will suggest RB/CCE. i haven't backed up anything modern that is episodic myself..

I don't backup many episodic discs so I really don't know what to suggest. Maybe clonedvd2.

That is an awful lot of episodes on a disk. Also, with Shrink did you use deep analysis and some quality enhancement when you did your backup, this might help.

I just did the normal analysis that DVD Shrink does for you. Can you tell me how do I do deep analysis and quality please.

When you hit backup on your next screen you will see a tab that says quality settings go into that and check deep analysis and whether you want Max Sharp to Max Smooth quality enhancements. I use smooth for TV Episodes. However, this will increase the encoding time substantially, but also makes for better compression.

I've got one other problem now I tried using DVD rebuilder and it produced a higher quality than DVD Shrink. I know this isn't directly related to this forum but I've posted it elsewhere and got no reply. Hi, I've read alot of help about compliance test failed problems with Nero express but none of them address the exact problem I've got. I convert downloaded TV programmes from AVI using DVD rebuilder. The size of all the episodes is too large to fit on a single DVD. When i burn the first 10 episodes onto a disk (with the video_ts.ifo and video_ts.bup) they burn and play fine. However, when I attempt to burn the final 10 episodes Nero says compliance test failed video_ts.ifo and video_ts.bup not present. When I manually transfers these in (from the beginning of the video_ts file that RB created) then add the final 10 episodes Nero burn the disk but it won't play on a DVD player. Please help. Is it possible because I converted all of the episodes at once that I can't seperate them onto separate DVDs. Hope you can help.

aessedai,
If I understand you correctly you have created one large TS Video file that you now need to split so that it will fit on two or more DVD's.
If that's the case then VOB Blanker should take care of your problem.

Also was reading the first part of your thread here and noticed you were having a problem similar to one I had been dealing with until a couple of weeks ago. Although it looks like you may have found a work around it didn't sound like it completely resolved your problem.
Not knowing what type of video capture you are using (AIW, WinTV, etc..) might I suggest you read my post to see if it might help you if your videos are still not completely free from the problem you started this thread with.

Hi...I'm using DVD Decrypter and Shrink to back up my Gilmore Girls dvd's (I gave up on X Copy Platinum, blah no good). Just wondering...when I use Shrink, what should the compression be set at in order to get the best quality, higher or lower? I noticed that the picture isn't that great when I have it set to automatic (62.5% compression). Would doing the deep analysis before the backup be better to get the quality I want?
Thanks for any and all help!

Thats a lot of compression for DVD Shrink. I would definitely recommend advanced analysis and quality enhancements as well. Max smooth or max sharp. It will take quit a bit lomger but the quality will improve.
