Help
I have several programs recorded on my comcast DVR. I would like to know how to copy these programs onto a DVD. I have DVD burners on both of my computers (desktop & Notebook) but I have no idea what I need to do to even get started. Are there any guides avail. Or can anyone help me with answers on what I need.
I did notice there is a USB on the front of my DVR.

Well you will need a Driver for your Particular DVR so you can Connect it to your PC Via USB and when that is Done you should see your DVR in "MY Computer" as a Removable Drive or some sort which you should be able to Access to copy the Files from the DVR to your HD....

The Files will probably be in a Mpeg-2 Type of Format so you should be able to author the Files to DVD depending on the Resolution of the Video Files.....

Try Contacting the manufacturer of your DVR unit and see if they Have a Driver so you can Connect it to your PC....

So how can I find out if there is possibly already a driver?
I very very new at this. I really don't know anything about it.
And also how do I arthor the files once I gain access them?

I suspect you did not get good advice. I have never done what you want to do but I suspect you will need hardware and software to do what you want to do. Do not take for granted that the device will make it easy for you to break copywrite laws. When you copy a DVD you might not be breaking the law but what you wish to do is clearly breaking the law. VCRs could alway make a copy becaue they are made to take in a video stream easily but they do not want you burning DVDs ( a perfect copy).

You want a video capture card for your PC. They are now old technology and are fairly cheep. Shop at a small store where the salemen are more expert than at a BestBuy sized store. I bet there is a card that will take an S-Video input. That might bypass the guts of the card but you need that connection to get the image into your computer. The software comes with the hardware. Once you have the card, you can convert and burn any video stream.

I did not realize copying a recorded program was against the law. I only wanted it to keep at home. It's not like I'm selling it or anything. I would just like the oppurtunity to watch it again while opening space on my DVR for other movies to record to watch at a later date.

It isn"t...That is whe whole Piont of useing DVR"s and TiVo"s...In the Near Future they will be adding RF Flags to Streams that the Copyright owners do not want you to record which will make them un-recordable....

The USB output on the Device is specificaly for Hooking up to a PC so Just contact the Manufacturer and Look for the Driver OR Maybe windows allready has a Driver so try connecting the USB Out onto your PC"s USB Input.....
