youre not making any sense.if your backups work without swap magic then do you have a modchip or something.or are you claiming your ps2 backups work without any mod?

at times i've gotten that same message on original import games using the swap magic and i would get angry because i got the game thinking it would work.
some games have the dvd-rom or compact disk label on the original disk, make sure you're using the correct swap disk for the game...i felt like a fool after it worked.

What games are you trying to backup? you mention about shrinking the iso of the game.. is this because it is a DVD-9 game you are trying to backup?
If it's a regular DVD-5 game with the iso being under 4.3gb then most of the time all you have to do is use DVD Decrypter to put the iso onto the harddrive then use decrypter or another burning utility such as Nero to burn the iso to disc.
Occassionally games need to be rebuilt or have files deleted or replaced with a text file of same name.. for which most people will use iso buster and cd/dvd generator..
For now though, do a search on here for the game you are trying to backup, and see if anyone else has had to do anything special to the game files or iso to get it to work on swapmagic... if they say nothing special, then do the simple iso read and then write method and see if that works.
people on here generally will try and help you...but sometimes you have to be a bit more specific in which game it is you're trying to backup, what software you are using and write speeds etc..and what version your ps2 is etc.
good luck

ps.
I have never heard of anyone trying to shrink the iso before... as far as I know, this would not work for trying to play it back on the ps2. I can understand the concept..basically it's disc compression, but I don't think that the ps2 would read it.

this was all for gt4, i used "the guy" method, i would use iso read and put it on my hard drive, and then use winhex to split the image, it would take all the stuff i needed plop it in a folder, and then take the parts filled with useless space and put them in another one, making the game from 7gb to 4.3 gb.
iuno i guess i need to keep trying things out thanks for the help

why dont you try the gt4 ripkit bt sonix?it works great, just a few missing movie scenes.but if the complete game is what you want to play then this tool will do it for you.besides the movies scenes are useless if there isnt a storyline anyway.
