anyone know anything about the new lightscribe dvd burners? or does any one own one?

i have a dvd rw and i use dvd shrink and dvd decryptor to back up my movie copies. im looking to possible get a lightscribe dvd rw. can u still easily back up the movies the same way and simply make a cover for it or do u have to use a certain program to even make a disc?
anyone know anyhting about this?

I have a lightscribe HP640C and have had no problems with it. It backs up DVD's with all the usual software in the usual manner. You do need a program to do the lightscribe etched covers, mine came with one. However, Nero has built lightscribe support into their program and you can design and then burn the covers through Nero.

From the little bit that I know about lightscribe, to "burn" the image on the surface requires compatibility from the burn software, which comes with the drive(at least it should). I recall a news article here on AD in which Nero stated they would have lightscribe support also.

For the data side of the disc, normal burning should still apply.....

i got a lacie lighscribe burner.. since its the only one supported for mac right now.. but i love this thing.. the label burning does take about 30 mins.. but they are working on firmware to speed that up and they are also working on making it color...

best part of it.. verbatim makes the LighScribe discs.. cant go wrong with verbs..

If you're going to use it for movies get the light scribe R- or R+ don't get the RW...might not work in your dvd player. Will only work on computer.

I'm in the process of getting rid of my dvd rom and then running a lightscribe dvd burner as well as my 12X LG dual layered one.
Can i expect any probs and will i be able to utilise both drives to burn 2 dvds at the one time.?
Also have you got a link and a review of the media type that you need to scribe with?

You should be able to burn with both drives. I haven't had a problem with my drive, although Saugmon had some issues with his that came with his computer and returned it. But mine has been running smoothly, it even automatically bitsets, which pleases me. I use the Verbatim media, but have not made too many etched disks, waiting til they get cheaper. Usually just use my TY, Maxell or Fuji. But for CD's I would use something cheaper.

You can only etch to the lightscribe disks. Still got sharpie all the rest. But I do not use lightscribe disks for all backups too expensive, plus I got a lot of regular disks to use up.

cdrs are about $20 for 30cds... those are verbs
dvds -- wal-mart has the verbs. 10 dvd for $12

I usually do my covers first before burning the movie, as you have to turn the disk over to do the covers. I do not want to take the chance of scratches.

hey arnie, i was told that the burner and etching is relatively crap, as they havent got a firm footing in the market over here i cant get any one to verify it.
so he sold me a canon pixma I4000 which copies straight to disc top with a colour image.
goning to try this first beforei get the light scribe
