Hi I have tried burning several movies recently and I am getting "DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue - Programming Error - Exception occured" I'm thinking that this may be due to something other than a decryption? What does the message indicate? It always occurs during the "Encoding" cycle. Any suggestions? Ron

try running AnyDVD in the background or try decrypting to the hard drive first. Then see if the encoding is stil the problem.

If you copying a movie w/ Sony ARccOs protection this is one of the errors shrink will give.
As DVDBack23 suggested run AnyDVD in the background. This should hopefully take care of the problem. A free 21 day trial can be dl from aD. Or you can also rip with Decrypter 1st.

Hello Binky
I took your advice and downloaded the trial copy of "Any DVD". I am not doing so well with this on my computer. I tried to copy one of the "Sony" type encrypted DVD's and during the process I got a "Blue screen " which shut down my computer. I tried to run the same one again and I got an "Encountered an error -DVD Shrink cannot continue" message. I tried two other DVD's and Got a " Programing error cannot continue" and another "Programing error - exception occurred". I tried another DVD and got "Programing error - The Handle is not valid". The one thing constant in all of the attempted downloads is that While encoding none of the DVD's were listed as encrypted? I will probably delete the "Any DVD" program from my computer but will first await any suggestions... Ron

Hello Gurnard
I deactvated "Any DVD" ( the encryption came back ) and ran the DVD that wouldn't copy and IT Worked! SOOO I'm going to delete "Any DVD" and try "DVD43". My initial main problem was that I could never get past the DVD's with the "Sony" - full screen" that came up when first inserting a DVD. "Any DVD" did get past that, but then I couldn,t copy the movie - " program errors" etc. The media I am using is "FujiFilm" discs, The movie I really wanted to copy was the "Seinfeld" Series - they are "Sony" protected. I am basically using just "DVD Shrink" and for the most part, it does very well. I have no Luck with "DVD Encrypter". It keeps telling me that my movies exceed the 3.7 gig limit when I know they don't. Thank you Gurnard, for your prompt reply and valued info. Ronnies

AnyDVD does have some incompatibilities with Pinnacle and InterVideo.
Do you have either of these?

Hello Binky7
Yes I do have and am using "intervideo WinDVD". I deleted the "AnyDVD" program and loaded "DVD43" and had the same initial results - a blue screen crash? After the initial crash I tried DVD43 on a known "Sony encrypted DVD". DVD43 did not get past the "Sony" full page like "Any DVD" did, so that didn't work either. Don't know why I'm getting all of these blue screens with the insertion of a decryption program? I wonder if it's batting heads with "DVD Encrypter? Man - sounds like I'm double talking, but I think I got the message right..
thanks Binky7, Ronnies

For some of the newer movies you will need something like AnyDVD, DVD43 to run with Shrink. AnyDVD is updated more often and is better imo than DVD43. For now though you can rip with DVD Decrypter and compress with Shrink. Decrypter is no longer being updated but will handle most copy protections up to this point.
From Slysoft (anydvd):
Quote:
My PC shuts down with a bluescreen!

Please activate the 'safe-mode' in AnyDVD. AnyDVD then uses a compatibility mode. Software from Pinnacle and InterVideo may not work when AnyDVD uses the 'safe-mode'.
Do you have any other copy/burning software like Nero?

Hello Binkie7
Both "Any DVD" and "DVD43" brought up the "blue screen" and I had to turn off the computer to set it right. Both programs decrypted the movies but I received error messages while trying to copy them. "DVD Decrypter" almost worked but it kept telling me that the movie that I was copying was too large for the program? I am positive that it wasn't. Do you have any answers for the "DVD Decrypter" stating that my movie is about 7 - 8 gigs long? Don't know how to beat this unless I'm doing something wrong? Thanks for your kind reply. Ronnies

Hi Ronnies
To burn an 7-8 gig movie already on your HD with Decrypter you'll need a dual layer disc. Decrypter will burn iso files.
Or you can compress with shrink to fit an a single layer disc and burn with Intervideo. Make sure you have at least 12 or more gig free on you hd.
Here's a link to some great guides for help:

Post back w/ any problems.

Here's what I don't understand. The movies in question is 1hr 51 min long, that doesn't equate to 8 gigs? This is what happens to me everytime that I try DVD Decrypter. Where's my thinking flawed?

Yes - an almost 2 hour movie can be 8 gig. It depends on all the extras, audios etc. Decrypter will rip the whole movie with no compression onto your hd or you can pick movie only in file mode which may be small enuf to fit on a single layer dvd with no compression.
Once you rip to your hd your need a prog like Shrink or Nero Recode to compress the movie to fit on the dvd.
Does this help?

hello Binkie7, Some of those movies that registered 8 gigs on "DVD Decrypter" I managed to copy with just using "DVD Shrink"?
The same problem - for me again Binkie, is what to do with the movie After it has been decrypted by DVD Decrypter??? I really tried to understand "Scuba Petes" directions and - For me - they are very difficult to follow. Gotta be simpler than that. I have a decrypted file of a movies sitting in "My Documents" and don't know how to get it into "DVD Shrink" for final copy? The movie in Question, after picking "open disc" in the very first part, does not even start to encode, in fact there is no information on the page to even designate that any movie is present?? Oh well, my real problem is still - How to get a decrypted movie into "DVD Shrink. Yes I do have "Nero", but not sure that it's doing the burning????? Ronnies

Hi Ronnies
Since the movie is already on your hd in shrink click 'open files' and go to my documents where you stored the movie & open the movie folder from there. Open disc is used when you have the orig disc in the drive.
After the analysis is done click 'back up'. Since you have Nero shrink should recognize this and list your burner under the target device tab under 'select back up target'. Shrink will then encode and burn.
Also remember that both of these progs will leave the file on your hd so you will need to delete them when down.

Hello Binky7 - The files I had from The "DVD Decrypter" were downloaded to "My Documents". There were two Files, One was a "MDS" file containing 8.23kb. The other was in a "RAR" format. So I extracted the "RAR" file and the contents went into the "Video TS" file. There was also an "Audio TS" file there but it was empty. I opened the "Open Files" area and I found the "Video TS" file in the "My Documents" area. I then highlighted the "Video TS" file and all looked pretty good. I then Picked the "backup" button and all the pertinant info appeared there but it never ran past that - it wouldn't encode??? I thought I finally had done something right (with your asistance of course) but that's where it ended.. Do you know of anyone who has copied "The door on the Floor"? it's relatively new. Maybe it can't be copied??? Or, from my description, did I do something wrong? Thanks tons Binkie7, I'm just not that familiar yet but I'm trying to get this stuff. Ronnies
