I don't know what it is but ever since I tried playing my backup copy of Tiger Woods 2005, every now and then I hear a cracking sound like the laser is trying to read the game. It is impossible to now play a backup without hearing that annoying sound every 20 min. Also when that sound comes up the game freezes for like two minutes! Please help!

I also want to mention that I am using swap magic 3.6. and I am burning my backups with memorex 16x dvd+r's at 4x with DVDecryptor. Before I tried to play Tiger Woods 05 I had no problems at all!

first off, memorex are not good media to use....i personally use sony..secondly, ps2 tend to prefer -r's not +r's....thirdly dont use 16x speed discs ever!!... high speed discs tend to not work as well when burned at low speed. so try something with a max speed of 8 and burn it at 4x(thats what i always use) and use some good quality dvd's(Sony,Verbatim)

with the bulky ps2 like i recently sold the my laser was coming up and hitting the disk from me using slide card the worm gear that ran the tracks also runs the laser to come up and down some way or another it got stuck so the laser was hitting my disks.

Hocking: I do use the slide card on a bulky ps2, can that be the problem? If so what did you do?

Blue_Oval: I am going to try my verbatim DVD-R 8x like you suggested and see what happens.

sdot: im not sure if it was just, my ps2 but i found a webs site to adjust my laser here.

http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars

im not saying that u do this but if you are desprate this might be the way to go.

when i pulled my slide card, i jerked it out every time and i could here a click some times that meant that the worm gear was skipping a gear and it was screwing up the timing on my laser and disk spin time.

Hope this works. tell me

I found that, verbatim, sony, and riadata work the best. for back ups. just a little heads up. that may differ but those are just some of the few that i know worked in more than ps2.

Hope This helps.
