Hi I recently bought a pack of memorex dvdr's. I burnt a movie and it played fine , when I loaded it into nero cd/dvd speed I couldnt check the media quality as i got an error, so I went to another tab and it was bout 2% in reading the burnt disc and the surface errors were at 97% and unreadable at 3%, is this the program or should I take back the media asap? Also do you know of any other programs beside nero that check media quality? My benq media was at 96.6% good

One word for Memorex - sucks. If you can return them I would. Nothing but problems. Stick with quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim DataLifePlus. Nero has the 2 tabs for disc scans: disc quality and scan disc. You can also dl Kprobe to check quality - here's a link:

@DaveERG,
If you can, then I'd recommend you to return those Memorex asap. Or you can exchange them for some Maxell, Fuji and Sony 8X DVD+R (make sure it says MADE IN JAPAN on the package), or some Verbatim if available. With these medias, you can't go wrong with them, at least you'll have 98% - 100% of successful burns.

Very good advice. Take those memosux back. You can also dl the free vs of dvdinfopro for PI, PIF scans. Note: KProbe is a nice scan utility but only works with lite-on's and rebadged litey;s. Dvdinfopro dl http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

You betya binkie no problem. There's a lot of rebadged litey's out there so sometimes ppl get lucky and KProbe works not realizing their dvdrw is a rebadged or oem litey.

companies such as Memorex use some appalling quality manufacturers and you won't know which quality you get until you buy. See 2nd link in my sig for more Memorex related horrors if you like

As for your Benq being okay - depends on who made them. Nero will tell you the manufacturer. I'd stick with TY or VerbatimDataLifePlus.
Yes discs poorly made will eventually degrade.
I did a Nero scan on an old CMC disc - it was so bad it all but locked my pc up. Now on my TY's 100% good.

The benq media is probably made by daxon. In my experience they aren't too bad but not in the same catagory as verbatum or ty by any means.

Yeah ditch the memosux disc. I had been using TDK and Memorex for 2 years now. Then my computer f'ed up and the only form of entertain I had in apt was DVD's and PS2 games. So I busted out some old Meromex I had and to my surprise my mint condition disc were all shuddering. I came here and people told me it was the media. Im in the process or backing up my badly damaged back-up now so learn from my mistakes chalk the CMCs out the windows in the end you'll save money.

Hi there,
Memorex media are like Refurbish Condoms.
The holes were patches, but good luck.
Would you buy those refurbish condoms ?
No, then don't buy Memorex media :)

LOL 1st time i've ever read someone comparing Memorex to condoms, and not even new ones, but "refurbished ones" HAHAHA :)
anyways, the CMC MAG manufactured Memosux discs have been some of the VERY WORST discs for me personally, anytime you CAN refund them or exchange them for BETTER quality media, i would suggest doing so.
