Most DVD's are more than 4.38GB in size (the true size of a disc NOT 4.7GB).
Any proggy that can compress a Video file will do the job. DVD Shrink, CloneDVD2 and Nero's Recode2 are three top-level programs to choose from. Of course DVD Shrink is FREE and when using its quality settings is superior than most programs sold today.
If you check the guides in my sig, you'll find some good guides for DVDD Shrink and Recode2. They are easy to use and the setup is a snap as long as you will follow the directions.
The compression I refer to is so good; you won't be able to distinguish the difference between the backup and the original with the naked eye.
Check it out,
Cheers,
Pete

@movies
did you purchase clonedvd2 by slysoft/elby? because i know there was an inferior product being offered that was simply CloneDVD...many people have had problems with that one...as well as dvd cloner II~ i bought dvd cloner 2 when it first came out when i didn't know anything about software programs, it worked well for awhile, but the software available NOW is much better. we all learn the hard way sometimes...i really like clonedvd2 by slysoft, it works well with AnyDVD also by the same company...

clonedvd2 is a great product,a 2 year old chimpanzee could use it.
clonedvd2/anydvd is a perfect 1&2 punch for your backing up needs.
When it didnt work for you movies27,you were still probably using that memorex junk.
There are better programs for movies, when large amounts of compression are needed, but for the most part,clonedvd2/anydvd is my main choice.

Speaking as a 2 year old chimpanzee, I have to agree that CloneDVD2 is quite easy BUT for me, I like everything that Nero's Recode2 can do for me if we aren't speaking of cost.
I "discovered" Recode2 and use it more than I do any other proggy.
I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for DvD Shrink But since Recode allows me to keep my menus as well it is my choice, hands down.
Sorry about the delay in answering but the last 6 weeks has been like hell at the ole' ScubaPete hacienda.

I'm with ya arniebear, I prefer of course for the big time compression Rebuilder Pro/CCE, but I use Intervideo Copy 3 and CloneDvd2 w/anydvd in background. Works great, no problems. I haven't had as many problems with Copy 3 as many here have, even when I use Movie Only. I like Recode 2 more than Shrink, but for a free program Shrink (w/ quality enhancements) works great.

I agree Shrink is a great free program and the quality enhancements are really a plus. They are much easier to use in Shrink then in Recode, because of having to go into the regedit and change them. I also like CloneDVD for its versatility and easy to user friendly interface, and combined with AnyDVD it is money well spent. I was one of the users who had difficulties with Intervideo, when it worked it worked well quality was good, but I also made too many coaster because it would burn blanks. As for RB/CCE it is great the best, but I sometimes am too impatient to wait for the product so I only use it occasionally.

Its apparent that I dont "Have the Intelligence of a 2 year old chimpanzee" because I tried using clonedvd2 managed to get to stage 2(baby chimpanzee level) and when I went to burn I got following message( Preceeded by an oh no!)
Creation of DVD file was not successful-directory not found. E:/VIDEO_TS log said Processing stopped Directory not found E:/VIDEO_TS I would love to advance to "2 year old" stage, I read help section but I believe I followed all it said.

@arniebear, I agree about Rebuilder, I have found that I use the batch processing a lot. Set a batch of 4 jobs and by morning they are complete, I will burn them later. I'm impatient as well. I don't understand the Copy 3 situation. I had two WB that when I selected Movie Only it put the movie on with the Director's commentary, but beyond that not an issue, I actually use customize more than movie only. But for great back-ups, hassle free...CloneDVD 2/anydvd combo is awe-some.
