@nettew,

I know how hard it is trying to learn and follow all these steps or guides as a newbie -- I know exactly how you feel, it's a struggle trying to have a single successful back up. I was once a newbie too in regards to backing up movies as well. However, I strongly believe that the more you pratices the sharper you'll be in the end. I'm not an expert on DVD Decrypter and Nero, and believe me when I say it simply because I'm not a genius for writing guides on how to back up movies. However, I hope that you'll find the below steps simple and or perhaps useful enough to follow on how to do a back up process in sequences. It's not the best, but at least I tried to help out, and or it'll lead you to have a few successful back up. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. It's obvious that I'm still learning on behalf of surfing at AD.com as well.

01) open your C: drive or hard drive, click on File, New, Folder, and name it MYNEWBACKUP_DVD, enter [ENTER] to save it.
02) now go inside "MYNEWBACKUP_DVD", click on File, New, Folder, and name it VIDEO_TS <---- yes, type in "exactly" like this and then hit ENTER to save it. Now closed that.

(((( to decrypt or rip a dvd movie using DVD Decrypter ))))

01) put good quality media in "dvd burner" (please use good quality medias such as Taiyo Yuden (FUJI or SONY), Maxell (all Made In Japan only) and Verbatim(Made In Taiwan is OK since it's rare to find one that's ?Made In Singapore? now-a-days)
02) put original dvd movie in "dvd rom drive"
03) open up DVD Decrypter, click on MODE, File F
04) "source" <----- from your dvd rom drive
05) "destination" <----- browse to your New Folder that you created earlier aka "MYNEWBACKUP_DVD", and VIDEO_TS, then click OK
06) now click on "DECRYPT" <--- it's the arrow next to the disc and burner icon. Sit back, relax, go smoke, run to a liquor store quick or go watch TV and wait until it's completed. NOTE: make sure you don?t have any other programs running while ripping.

(((( to encode a movie or compress/shrink a movie using Nero Recode 2 ))))

01) Open up Nero Recode 2, click on "Recode an Entire DVD to DVD"
02) change your "CUSTOM" settings to 4,400MB and check on "Fit To Target"
03) click on "Import DVD", and browse to your New Folder "MYNEWBACKUP_DVD", then to VIDEO_TS, then OK. Recode should do a quick analysis now (approximately 1 ? 2 mins), once its done you should have the whole completed movie with main title, audio, foreign audio or subtitles and extras.
04) NOTE: now you can remove any unwanted audio i.e. foreign audio or subtitles and extras, so your back up will be better on quality. If you don't want to remove anything, then just leave as it is and you'll have a "full disc back up", now click on "NEXT"
05) "Destination" <--- Hard Disk
06) "Target Folder" <--- browse to your folder: VIDEO_TS that you created with DVD Decrypter earlier, then click on "BURN" <---- this process takes any where from 20 ? 35 mins depending on your computer specs.
07) once Recode completed the encoding process, you'll have at least something like 20 ? 35 VIDEO_TS small folders inside your folder depends on how big is the movie.
08) open up Nero Burning Rom, Nero Express or DVD Decrypter or any of your desire burning/backing up programs and back it up. That's it... easy as smoking. (This backing up/burning process takes any where from 7 ? 10 mins depending on your computer specs.)

Hope this help you a little.

not sure if this is going to help anyone but i use dvd decrpter and DVD Shrink and burn with Nero.Im just going to say how i back up my movies using these free programs.1)make a folder name it whatever you like that identifies your decrypt backup,i freferred using a different hard drive where i can format it after im done.2)insert dvd in dvd rom.under mode tab, click ISO then READ.your destination file should be decrypt backup or whatever.your dvd should auto load if there is any protection just click ok.at the bottom click at the disk pic and 20,30 or 40 mins later you have decrypt the dvd.3)Now comes the fun part.open DVD Shrink click on file, open disc image find your back up and watch itanalyze.once its done you have some options.if the movie is not 100% you could back it up just like that or remove some audio all extra junk in there i like to keep 5.1 audio but if it`s not 89% or higher i just click on re-author and drag the movie over to left side click on compression to check you have the highest quality possible.if its under 100% make sure you have the deep analyze to be performed otherwise back it up,select target i use iso image file as a backup target and select the image file again wherever you want it to go i recommend different area then where you are using your operating system.but if you do, it could create some problems after you backup a few dvds then you have defrag you hard drive and so force its just a pain.well after you have your image file done open up Nero and burn image file and walla theres you backup.i hope this is not too confusing.it took me a couple of days to figure this out but theres a lot more twicks to decrpter so play around with it and have fun!!!!!!!!!!
