Hi, I just tried to burn a dvd using alkohol's instructions, and it worked for "The Pianist"! My problem now is that I'm trying to burn "Ice Age" and I encountered errors which I do not know how to solve. The 2 error messages that I got from DVD Decrypter are: "Drive D:\ (FAT32) does not support single files greater than 4 GB" and then "Failed to Write Sectors 1402336 - 1402367 - Logical Unit is in process of becoming ready". The burn worked until 82% complete, than stopped until I cancelled burn and it finalised the disk.

I had the following messages from DVD Decrypter upon READING the original DVD...maybe this wwas part of the problem? "Possible RCE Protection Found!" and then "Media region code: 1" and then "User selected Region 1 for the disc's region code". This was a 2 layered DVD (as was "The Pianist", but for some reason, even though I did excatly the same thing here, I got these errors.

Do you have any ideas for me to overcome these errors?
Thank you, P.S. This is my first time here.

this bit is just a warning -
Quote:
Drive D:\ (FAT32) does not support single files greater than 4 GB
- that's fine, DVD Decrypter will automatically split any single files to a maximum of 1GB, thus avoiding the 4GB limitation..

Without knowing what your PC is, here's some info.
Some PCs like Compaqs and HPs come with a partition on the hard drive. C: is the main drive and is NTFS. D: is the system restore drive and is FAT32. So if your PC is like this, then that message won't affect anything at all.

Thanks for the info...I have an HP Pavilion 764n desktop, so that's probably ok. The next step is to find out how to get through the other DVD Decrypter error messages:

-"Possible RCE Protection Found!"
-"Media region code: 1"
-"User selected Region 1 for the disc's region code".
-"Failed to Write Sectors 1402336 - 1402367 - Logical Unit is in process of becoming ready".

Could be the media you are using, what is it?

I am pretty sure the "Logical Unit is in process of becoming ready" means that your DVD Drive is trying to read something or filling it's buffer.

I do not understand why this would happen while burning though. Are you trying to multi-task? Also, was this the only time you tried to burn Ice Age? If you have a DVD+/-RW disc try it with that. This way you don't waste any discs.

There is also a chance you are using bad media. What is the Media code that DD Decrypter gives you?

Here is how I go at burning movies:

DVDD ISO mode=>read. This gets me an image. Then if necessay, I use DVD Shrink to compress the movie and save as an ISO. Finally I open DVDD go to ISO Mode=>Write. I make sure my burn speed is at 4x and burn the movie.

You can bypass the first DVDD step for larger movies and go straight to DVD Shrink if you want, but DVDD can handle more copy protections than DVD Shrink.

I'm using DVD Decrypter to read the original DVD, than DVD Shrink to compress it, then DVD Decrypter again to burn.

Bye for now.

Hi JaguarGod et al,

I knew from the beginning not to have anything else running while using Decrypter and Shrink, so multitasking is not the problem.

You aksed "There is also a chance you are using bad media. What is the Media code that DD Decrypter gives you?" I'm not sure what this means, but I use Verbatim discs which I know are compatible with my burner, as I contacted HP for that.

I burn my movies exactly the same way you described, and it worked for "The Pianist", but does not seem to be working for anything else, even though I am not doing anything differently.

I don't mind using DVD Decrypter, and I even went to the thread about dealing with PSL (Protected Sector Lists), and it turns out that there are no PSL's to export on the movies I'm trying to burn, so I'm brainstorming to figure out what the problem is.

Thanks for your help.

Did you ever burn it to a dvd? If so, what program did you use? I'll try it without DVDDecrypter, but I want to burn a copy.

I too have burned Ice Age using Shrink and Decrypter. The only problem with Ice Age is that it has a Wide and Fullscreen version on it. Juste rip to your hard drive and then use re-author in Shrink and pick which version of the movie you want and then proceed.

I have Nero Burning ROM but I don't know how to use it. If I use DVD Decrypter to break thru the codes, then DVD Shrink to compress, what settings do I need for Nero, and what mode do I use for the DVD? (I see more than one, that's why I went to DVD Devrypter, more user friendly)

as the files are in DVD format, pick 'dvd video' compilation in Burning Rom, drag files to left of screen if you're using 6.6.0.14 or newer -
Quote:
Improved usability for DVD-Video compilation. Now the VIDEO_TS folder is opened per default so a drag and drop action will add the files to the correct folder
. If your Burning Rom is older than that you have to select the VIDEO_TS folder on left of screen PRIOR to dragging files over to the left of screen (ie into the VIDEO_TS folder)

Hi again Creaky,

I printed out the Nero tutorial, and I checked to see which version I have. It's 6.0.0.9.

So before I start, I just want to run this by you...I first use DVD Decrypter in File mode.
Or do I just go to DVD Shrink. What I'm confused about is usually I do everything in ISO mode, but I notice that in File mode, there are Video TS files. But then I get stuck with DVD Shrink that works with ISO modes. I guess I'm wondering if you could break it down for me because I'm getting a bit confused!

I have all the tutorials, I just don't know which programs I'm combining.

Thanks for all you help thus far, and that goes for everyone!

first of all, that version of Nero is prehistoric, latest is 6.6.0.16..

right, i won't be able to describe this better than the tutorials/guides etc, but i'll have a quick go (i'll make it brief as i've been posting for hours and a few of the posts have been, let's say, trying!).

DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 (free) is great. i use it for most of my films, 1) because i only ever do movie-only, 2) because i mostly buy older films, where newer copy protections are a non-event. DVD Shrink ceased being updated about a year ago, but it's only really the last few months that newer protections have come out that Shrink alone can't handle. Shrink cannot burn on it's own as it has no burn engine of it's own however it can burn using Nero and i think Decrypter. (i've never found the need for this burning option though as i have Nero Burning Rom).

DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 (free) is also great. However this product has been recently shutdown by a certain very large, very greedy corporation who doesn't like people such as us backing up our own purchases. Anyway i digress, Decrypter can handle most or all of the latest encryptions... Decrypter has it's own burn engine built-in, which i've used maybe once, if at all. Again i have no need as i have Nero.

For troublesome films you can generally use Decrypter to get either a whole DVD to hard disc, or just the movie files to hard disc, and use DVD Shrink from there to Shrink the files to fit on a single layer disc if necessary. If the files don't need Shrinking you can just burn to DVD using whichever method you want. Again i prefer Nero myself for this.

As for ISO mode i very rarely have need for it, i just use FILE Mode myself, Arniebear's explained ISO further up the page.

So for newer protections, you can buy AnyDVD from a company called Slysoft. Being a paid product it's able to keep up to date with the protections better. there are other products for ripping/protections but that's it for me for tonight!.

Hope that explains it for you..

Hello,

Ok. I think I am coming to terms that my software is out of date for new releases such as The Notebook and Ice Age. Or that I simply am not using the right technique to crack the codes. I don't want to start buying software, as the codes will probably keep getting changed, so it seems like a bad investment...

I will still keep trying and brainstorming, because I don't want to give up yet, but I'm going to buy rewritable dvds so I can play around without going broke.

Thanks for your help.

@rachest

Decrypter should do both of these movies easily with no problems. Open Decrypter and then rip you movie in file mode. After that open Shrink and then hit the tab to open file, find your movie and Shrink will do its analysis. You can then do a re-author and do movie only. Her is the easiest guide for the programs

no worries, keep trying. i just re-read my previous reply and it's explained quite well :)

decrypter will do most things out there. you could simply use it to get movie to hard drive, point Shrink at the folder to shrink it as needed, then use existing Nero to do a straightforward 'dvd-video' burn. PS just add the (free) updates to Nero from here - Update-Package 1 from Nero.com/en/nero-up.php" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.Nero.com/en/nero-up.php

Hey! I've been useing shrink and dvd decryper, for some time now and i'm very pleased. I go shrink first remove/edit secondary audio like french, spanish etc; only for compression purpose, then I backup with
Decrypter. One thing I do different that has been briefly been mentioned is I run Any-dvd in the background AND DVD43 which has been reciently updated twice in less than one month.
www.mrbass.org <--(can i do this?) has a very good step by step guide for shrink with lots of pictures and other info.

Good luck,have fun.
