Hi I'm new to this hobby and haven't yet run into a game that won't play as a backup for me. My question is how does a gamer determine when there is definately a need for patching/rebuilding of a game before being able to properly back it up? Is there a sure-fire way to determine that there isn't a problem with the burning/backup method and that the game is actually in need of some help to function as a backup? Thanks!

The best way to tell is by doing a 1:1 copy and seeing if that works first.If it doesn't work by doing the 1:1 copy method then you will need to resort to rebuilding or patching.Make sure to look at what other people experience also,because it will tell you if you are burning wrong or if it needs to be rebuilt or patched.I hope I helped you out,good question also because you can't actually tell until you back it up or look at what others experience.If you back up a game 1:1 and the game works,and you see someone else having problems let them know ok that it works by doing a 1:1 copy.Most of the time you won't run into this problem,but it happens every now and then.You will end up getting a game where you have no choice but to rebuild or patch,most of the time people will point it out for you.Just search for the title of the game if you see a game that is troubling you.I am sure you will come up with results depending on the game,if it doesn't work for you.

A 1:1 is what people call it when it doesn't need anything special done to the game to copy it.
eg. use DVD Decrypter to copy the iso to the harddrive and then use a burning program to put the iso onto another disc.

hope that cleared it up for you.

@eviltaper

Also, people that always use the same burn methods and have no problems backing up games can tell if suddenly a game will not backup the usual way...they then know that the game is going to need something else done to it so that it can be backed-up.

I usually use the 1:1 method, then if that doesn't work I use the iso buster - cdvd gen method... it does help to do a search on here first though to see if anyone else has already figured out how to backup the game.

good luck guys
