Hi, im new here. I have a widescreen avi video that I want to burn and still keep as widescreen but when i burn it, it zooms in as a regular 4:3 TV letter box and it cuts off the sides of the video or sometimes it stretches the video to fit 4:3 making it unbearable to watch. How do I keep the widescreen format and/or is there a program I can get that will keep it widescreen but have it in 4:3 format?

I tryed the River Past Video Prespective program but it literually didnt do anything, it would look like it was putting in the black bars but when it finishes, nothing about the video has changed. I tryed it on ever format and setting I could and nothing so I gave up on that.

You can try TMPGEnc Plus. You can download a trial version here:
http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tp.html

See guides for using it instead of plunging in because if you don't change some default Environment options some .AVI videos get kicked out as "unsupported" when they are really ok.

Here's one guide that shows how to set the environent options and other stuff:
http://www.rita.LT/dap&js_guides/TMPGEnc_Plus_ILLUSTRATED_GUIDE_(...)_by_dap&js.zip

In your case to play 16x9 on a regular NTSC TV you would want to use the "Other Settings" button in the wizard "Filter Setting" page. On the Advanced Tab there's a dropdown for "Video Arrange Method" and you want to select "Full Screen Keep Aspect Ratio 2" in the list.

Also you might want to select a small section using Source Range to test the output until you feel confident how stuff is going to come out. Esp. if you're going up in framerate you can get audio out of sync issues etc.. If you get that search this site for "PAL TO NTSC"
to find out ways to fix it.

Use VSO DivX to DVD

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/v...

Under aspect select "force 16:9".

Simple.

none of those things worked guys. all they did was do what I didnt need. I need to make it so the widescreen movie I have will play in widescreen on the tv. but when i burn it to dvd, it doesnt play as widescreen, it plays as full screen and it cuts off the sides of the movie. I need something to add the black bars.

Did you use the Aspect Ratio to force 16x9 as it was mentioned to you before.

In that case I suggest you drop the .AVI on AviCodec and post all the specs. Also what steps did you use in TMPGEnc? Full Screen Keep Aspect Ratio 2 works when you select DVD NTSC in the Wizard. Not DVD NTSC (16x9).
