Hey guys, I have a quick question. Does anyone know what the quality is if you change a 25fps movie to 29.97 in Vdub?

Crappy and jerky...in most cases.
Why do you need to change the framerate of an AVI?

the old PAL to NTSC. I figured as much. I was using DGPulldown but Adobe Encore doesn't agree with it so I was looking for other options. I know there have been huge threads on this. I guess I will have to sift through them. Thanks.

You would be better using the encoder to do the conversion, not vdub.
Encore shouldn't complain then.
Too bad dgpulldown's files aren't acceptable to Encore...maybe a note to their support staff?
On another note, you could try DVDLab or TMPGEnc dvd author...probably not what you wanted to hear though.

thanks for the help. I don't know how to change it using my encoder. I understand the whole telecine thing a little bit. I guess I will have to learn. I would like to stay with encore. I don't think I could use anything else I love the photoshop integration. Thanks again.

Avisynth will give you the same output as VirtualDub.
You'll still have to frameserve it to an encoder.
What encoder are you using?
For the record, you could try it in vdub.
Open the file, select Video, framerate.
Hit the radio button "Convert to fps", and input 29.97
Select File, Start frameserver, and go.

I am using CCE 2.7. The quality will be better if I frameserve then? I didn't think it made a difference. Thanks.

If you're using CCE, definitely frameserve, using avisynth to do the framerate conversion.

ok great thanks. One more thing, what filter would I use in AviSynth for best results? How would I convert it? If you could point me to a thread or give me answers that would be awesome. Thanks again.

Start on the avisynth home page. They have lots of short scripts to do what you want, and how to make it work with CCE. Google it.
Doom9 has a few guides too.
